What's the point of this game??
Okay, just calm down a little and hear me out.

Don't get me wrong, I loved HM FoMT when I was younger until now and I'm so excited to get SOS FoMT.

I will probably get the answer with my own question at some point.

So I was watching a YT Channel called: Alit Dwipayana, He's probably (is) speed running but the way he played the game seemed boring. I was just looking for tips on how to get rich and how to get items early etc. but I suddenly felt disappointed and felt like the game is just repetitive and no fun. He's not really the problem, it's (probably) me.

When I was younger and when I used to play HM FoMT a lot, I had to learn things myself without any help and do things the way I know how and wanted to. To me the game was about flourishing the farm, building relationships with the townspeople, animals and spouse, enjoying the game and attending events etc.

Okay enough of that and go straight to my point, when I watched the videos it just didn't feel satisfying. The fact that you can get 2/4* million on your first year and every year seems absurd, with very little effort. The devs probably added this way so testers and reviewers can get ahead and test the games for issues and quicker progress etc. It's not rewarding imo, don't get me wrong, it's a great way to get rich fast when you need a lot. I suppose it might be the way he played the game that displeased me, obviously anyone can play the game however they wanted but, it wasn't exactly how the game was meant to be played. You can get rich fast and take care of the farm and socialise with people and so on, there's nothing wrong with that.

I don't normally lost interest when watching speed runs and get the game afterwards, not that I watch speed runs. I play how it's meant to be played and however I want to play it. Also, the speed running isn't really the issue.

Sorry if it's all over the place, confusing and unclear but please, do shine some light to the lost poor confused soul. I guess it's about repetitiveness, loss of interest, I don't really know how to explain myself, or you can just totally ignore me because I've been having many issues.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate it.

PS: I had to write everything all over again, as I lost my previous one that I hadn't finished, so I may have forgotten some stuff or haven't included.

I stopped looking for meaning in games. Most stories disappoint me, but the gameplay can keep me in the game for a long time.

I prefer to avoid games already completed by me earlier, especially if I have good memories of this. Our memories often distort reality, embellishing it. In addition, our life experience has also changed. You can’t enter the same river twice.

Here is your answer.

Therefore, people prefer to avoid any spoilers.

Speedruns depends a lot, you can make a speedrun of finishing to talk to the mayor, and will be like a minute speedrun.

Usually the speedruns os theses games are to marry someone fast, and they do this by exploiting the game mechanics, sometimes they play a patch older so that some bugs or exploits that were not patched before still works for their speedrun.

For me the point of this game is to have everything i can, all the houses, all the animals with max hearhs and winners of competitions, get married, all upgrades, farm farm and farm... love some grind.
Just dont think about it too much, try to enjoy the game. You will discover what you want to do by playing it. Some people just like to get married and play with the farm more and stop, others like to unlock everything (and there is somethings really hard to unlock), some people like to keep improving the best way to make gold, others like to mine, fish. Others dosent care too much about the farm but likes the dating and marriage stuff more, depends a lot.

This game gives a lot of freedom, its one reason why people love it, so just enjoy, and what you feel the will to do, just to it.
I'm a min-maxer so I always like to play efficiently, but this isn't an rpg and I find when you go the min-maxer route with harvest moon you just burn out and stop playing for a long time. You should definitely play at your own pace to enjoy it. At the end of the day it is different strokes for different folks, there is a lot of fun to be had in this game, it is the best of the series imo.

No problem; good arguments and opponents are infrequent, so I had no illusions about you ;)

First of all thank you for your responses^^

I don't exactly know how I feel about this, sometimes I like it sometimes I don't. Mostly I like it if there's a detrimental effect on my gameplay, eg SOS Winter 1. I don't like the feeling of regretting something because it just kills it for me, I always think that I could've done better or the other instead for better results, like Life is Strange.

I wasn't trying to spoil myself but simply was looking for something, plus in this game you completely make your own story and life, unless you watched all the heart events, which I didn't. Also, I've played HM FoMT so I pretty much know most of main and strange events.

I only watch reviews, or speedrun, or videos of cutscenes when I've already decided whether I would play this game or not.

When reviews and trailers aren't enough, I go to gameplays to further decide^^ I have a habit of getting games and never playing them, I have plenty of games but can never decide what to play and waste my time deciding, I'm a bit skint so yeah. I should stop trying to decide and just get on with it and not waste any more time.

Me too, they're pretty much the goals anyone who plays HM/SOS, unless they have a different plan...

Some stories are good but sometimes I just forget the story and just enjoy the gameplay instead or just not care at all. Meaning in games... I wasn't particularly looking for meaning, I'm just looking for meaning of escape of reality and pass time XD

That's quite deep. I do find it hard to engage and continue playing old games, I literally bought a retro handheld device, fixed my GBA SP, fixed my PSP, got an R4 for my 3DS and thinking of getting EZ Flash for GB. I played them a few times but never again. I literally have a lot of library of old games but can't entice be to come back again. I play a game and then leave it for another game without finishing any of them. I've spent so much money on buying and fixing them... They will come in handy.. someday..

Is it really bad to replay the games I've played when I was younger? Could you elaborate this a bit more and the river thing? Games when I was younger are definitely part of my memories. I want to replay games and enjoy them all over again but, at the same time I want to play new games instead of repeating games.

Paying full price for games are kinda steep, only to play for a short amount of time. It's nice if it's a gift from someone, but I now have to pay things for myself. I don't have a stable job and still reliant, so I want to avoid unnecessary spending if I can, but also not to completely bore and punish myself out.

About the answer: Well, that's what I want to do and the point of the game and enjoy it. Maybe it just felt too easy? Maybe because its repetitive and boring? What's the end for me? While yes, it's about the journey rather than the destination, I guess I was just concerned and worried that I wouldn't enjoy it. The video just made me think it was too easy.

It's definitely nostalgia, I've been holding of playing the original because of this remake. There's just too many questions in my head and I'm trying to answer but end up confusing myself more and ask more.

Holding off for the game won't be worth it even if it goes on sale because it wouldn't be much and worth the wait for the sale. On the plus side, I'm looking for a game to play, not for a short time, but until I bore out myself I guess. I want a game that I can play at least for 30 hours without things getting boring. I'll be getting this game on pre-order, I have £5 off from the summer sale and I'm just looking for Steam wallet sale, though I've already missed two -.- because I was so indecisive.

PS: I don't know how the formatting will work but hopefully it's not a mess.

Well, I can try to retell the parable in my lame English:

Two girls indulged in memories of past school days. Excitedly, they shared their emotions; they also remembered the picture hanging on one of the stands. They remembered that the picture depicted a blue sky, white clouds floating in the sky and a girl in a bright dress. But then their opinions diverged: one girl began to argue that the dress was orange, and the second assured that the dress of the painted girl was aqua. They argued for some time, and then decided to check which of them was right. They returned to the old school, found the very stand, looked at the picture... it was black and white.

Sounds good I don't think you will regret buying it, you can always get a refund if you played for less than 2 hours.

If you don’t like the gameplay loop, maybe check out a similar series called Rune Factory. It’s a bit more engaging and has a better story overall. With any luck, we’ll get some Rune Factory ports to PC this decade. Until then, there’s Switch... and a few other options...

Nostalgia sells this game for me, along with a bunch of new features I want to try out.

I prefer not to indulge myself too much in "get-rich-quick" tips when I play games for the sake of nostalgia, because then I will be bored afterwards. If the gameplay seems boring and repetitive for you, maybe implement limiters or rules for yourself: do not use to the 'save-anywhere' button, for instance (since it can make a lot of things too much easier), or do not exploit feature B, or C.

Challeng'em? I believe this is not necessary, because Steam achievements for this game are announced, which are unlikely to be quick and simple.

To me personally, this game gives me back nostalgia, when my family was still on harmony. I remembered when I cried because my mom tripped over the power cable of my PS1 and my progress is gone, my mom and sisters also helped me write the guide book I borrowed from my friend. This results as an instant pre-purchase. Also, I would like to see new things that isn't available in HM:BTN

I have seen a lot of youtubers playing this game, and most of them are already rich in early year by exploiting the save load trick when horse racing. I thought it will be really bored if you get rich too early. I also found out (this apply to myself) if you watch the gameplay too much, you will gradually lost interest in playing it. When the steam version can be downloaded, I'll try to play not using save load trick or any other tricks. Maybe this will work for you, dude.

Totally agree with this, those players on Youtube are playing the way they wanted to. And it's understandable that watching them play the way they play it by exploiting the game here and there can make you lose interest over time.

But that's the thing, that's just how they play it. That doesn't mean you have to follow the way other people play. You play in your pace, the way only you want it to play. You can just not exploit the game and play as normal as you want it to, and you can keep the interest in the game with the way that works for you. There's no need to follow other people's game play styles.

I myself would probably be exploiting a lot more than these other Youtubers do, but that's just how i like to play in my own way. For academic purposes and for resources to write a comprehensive wiki. That doesn't mean other people should play the way I play it.
I mean if you just take a look at the person who he is talking about, you would see that the guy has been playing for over 75 years in the japanese version. At that point, I wouldn't be surprised that he is optimized everything from the start.
