Why is the game so dark?

Especially when it's night time in the game. It's almost unplayable. I've turned the brightness all the way up and everything....

I noticed that too and I dont like it. And none of the graphics options will fix it. They wanted cool looking shadows but they didnt consider the gameplay side of such a change.

Most likely due to the game using PBR lighting, so things in shadow or in darkness are actually dark as opposed to being artificially lighted. Yes, it does make the game a bit darker, since the original probably didn't really have that in mind, but that's always one of the issues of remastering a game with PBR lighting that didn't previously have it.

Sorry to necropost, but I had the same problem and was searching for a solution and ended up here. I found a solution! You have to find the display.ini file and delete the entire HDR section.
