Another issue that's not really a big deal is the awful lip sync with the new models.
Also when you ride a jet ski, your character doesn't sit correctly, kind of just floats above. Actually the camera while "driving" boats and jet skis is quite buggy as well.
There is also a bug with the volumetric fog, whereas when I disable it, i get big black squares all over the screen at night time. So I leave it on, even though I am not a big fan of it.
Eh the game looks pretty, and as fun as I remember, but it is a shoddy remaster imo.
No FOV slider (though a mod mostly fixes that), texture pop-ins, all kinds of audio bugs, missing parts on some vehicles, camera will sometimes bug out while driving/piloting vehicles, vehicles needing to be stolen will randomly explode.
The police/enemy gang spawning is fairly terrible, making some of the vehicle theft missions very difficult, without cheesing it with gang/police forgiveness. Then there's the Sweepers, which only exist to annoy the player, and you will be annoyed by them.
Performance has been pretty steady for me, not much in FPS issues (outside of cut scenes), and I haven't had the game crash on me yet. But, YMMV.
I didn't mind paying $13 for this remaster, but I wouldn't even entertain the thought of paying the $40 full price for this. If the devs had spent as much time fixing bugs, as they did on the graphics update, I would be willing to listen to an argument that it's worth $40.
It is a fun game, but the bugs will sometimes ♥♥♥♥ all over that fun.
Biggest issue we had playing coop is broken missions. The first mission we played we have to redo several times before giving up. The AI will just drive off the road and get stuck so you have to restart the mission and it just keeps happening in different parts of the mission.
But the graphics look great and atleast they let you play the entire game coop so I can forgive all the issues for the discounted price; but just barely.
Ive had 1 soft lock, where my character was driving then I just popped out of the car, car disappeared but I was still stuck in the driving position.
Enemies popping up right in front of you.
Flamethrower animation not triggering so the enemy stands there, you become on fire, the sound of the flamethrower will trigger and no flame animation.
People popping out of cars onto the roof of the car randomly.
Traffic swerving into you as if there was a large gang fight going on, but your just driving ( no notoriety )
Missions not triggering. ( The mission where you need to drive the vehicle into the gas station, but the explosion or cut scene doesn't trigger so you spend your time slamming into the pump over and over again until it finally works or until you restart the mission)
Being ran over sometimes loops the re-spawning load screen a couple times.
Cars will sometimes hit an invisible "wall" while your driving and raise the 2 back wheels off the ground.
These are just the things ive encountered playing through from start to finish of the main story.
Like someone else said. It's not worth the $40, not in this state.
All issues present already in the original game.
I opened a discussion after the weekend but it got drowned out by everyone else doing the same.
One of the minor but constantly annoying and immersion breaking things is that pedestrians and shopkeepers have the wrong lines most of the time.
As in, I walk into Rim Jobs and the vendor uses the lines meant for Rusty Needles, pedestrians mixing up the lines meant for male and female player characters and so on
Also yes, spawning of police and gang npcs is somewhat horrid and random.
Guess I got spoiled by the time I spent playing the normal version with mods but still for a remaster one would expect more then just visuals.
Mechanicwise the inability to climb ladders makes the sniper rifle mostly useless since one can simply not get to the best vantage points without using a flying vehicle now.
I didnt even try co-op since anyone of my buds that might have grabbed it saw the complaints and problems mentioned about the remaster and decided that 65 % off was not enough to bear with the problems.
Yeah, I forgot how Police and Gangs were in the vanilla version. After a few minutes of putting up with it, I began seeking out some mods. Yorpie remade the Notoriety Error Fix mod for Remastered. Now gameplay is good again.
Also, Homies called sometimes get stuck and just stand out in the middle of the street, not moving. I feel bad, but the solution I use is the same for original. I kick and hit them to make them responsive. Not too much though since I don't want them to turn on me. If they do leave me, at least I can quickly re-recruit them again.
Oh and earlier during a Survival Call, there was a pedestrian on a motorcycle who was indestructible when I shot him. I made the mistake of kicking his bike into a fence and he went flying still on the bike. I ran towards him, and next thing I was trapped inside an invisible box and couldn't get out. Outside the area, gunfire sounds were slowed down and my Saints were speaking in slow motion. I had to reload my game and as a result I lost my Homies temporarily since they went on cooldown.
The hipster girl with a cap, glasses and ponytail? For me her ponytail is glaring white.. unless I get close and move the camera so I almost got a top down view. Only then can I see the color the game wanted to assign to that NPC.
Similar but different, I was walking along the ruinied piers with the half buried signs, the port a potties and such, on one section theres broken beton by the waterline. The texture for rubble streches around the part and smears it over the break. I was only there due to sneaking up on the gang operation closeby.
I really hope that at least the NPCs mixing up their voices will be fixed with a patch.
It is uncanny to walk up to a photo op, see its a guy, do it and get voice lines for a female photo op npc out of the expirience.
I have yet to experience that but I do get ghost NPCs speaking near me when there is no one in the area -- such as a pedestrian smarting off or a gang member taunting me. I look around and there's no one there. It's especially obvious when it's a gang member or police officer since there would be a red dot on the map.
