Game not starting

After installing the game, the game isn't starting: the launcher opens where I can choose my language and then it stops, no other buttons appers.

Is it possible that the game requires specific windows updates in order to start?
Since we are using the Steam version of the game, it shouldn't be an issue since the game has been re-done from scratch right?
