"Map Mode" augmentation does nothing?

Had spare exploration bits cause I never really use them, decided to have a quick squizz through the augmentations anyhow and saw this new augment, said "screw it" and gave it a go and... There's no change to the simulation whatsoever. Did a pass-through of all the "levels" in the Primary Sim (which is what I assume the map mode augment is for) and nope, not a single difference. I thought maybe it was cause I'd unlocked the augment while I had Mars fully terraformed and the map mode doesn't like having both planets active so I reset the sim, and there's still nothing. maybe it's on me for taking "see your sim from a whole new perspective" at face value, but it just feels like I've annoyed myself and wasted five minutes.

Go to the main civ garden (unlocks with Stone Age, the icon looks like a fire on right side of screen), and there's a "map mode" icon that looks like a compass in the lower left of screen. (Tried to post a screenshot but maybe that's not allowed?)

I LOVE this mode, as it gives you an overhead view of the whole layout, especially for the Pyramids, which are on a different island and hard to find at ground level. And, it was super cheap.
