You need to fix the anti-cheat bug that causes the game to fail and get stuck, not being able to start the game with the anti-cheat trying to launch the game.

Anti-Cheat, huh? Maybe that's why I can't play Halo 4 without it crashing right out of the gate. Figures, Anti-Cheat is so broken, it's ruined loads of my play sessions on multiple games.
Will there come Workshop to the MCC???

Right! welcome then. To my TED talk. get ready to read. and really get ready for some hot takes. but hey... you asked.

I try really hard not to come off as some purist. I really do... those guys are annoying... but if you want reasons for my dislike of these two games, then you've opened the floodgates.

Right, so lets start with 4: visual design. I'm all for games looking better after each installment, but I also enjoy consistency. Halo 4 looks good from a purely technical standpoint. from a story standpoint however, it makes no sense. From chiefs armor, to the dawn, to the covenant. Everything looks different, again not inherently bad. but it looks too different, and I personally hate the designs. Plus for some things like chiefs armor, they shouldn't look different and they are given no reason for being different. Overall I think 4 is an ugly game from a design point, but an impressive looking game from a technological standpoint.

Gunplay: 4 feels like reach but... slow. Like the armor abilities, the movement the combat feels like reach, which would be fine as I personally feel that reach has the best gunplay, but again, it feels slow. nerfed if you will. It plays fine but I just feel like it was a step back. on top of the guns all feeling very weak, except for the promethean weapons which feel too powerful to the point of being broken. the armor abilities feel nerfed the most. best example is the jetpack. it lasts about 6 seconds in this game but reach you could basically fly. I understand why it was toned down but i feel that almost all of the armor abilities were neutered. Again, I'm okay with change, but everything involving gunplay felt like a devolution from the previous game.

Story: some like to say that this game had good story. I agree, it had a good story. it just didn't feel like a halo story. It felt like it was trying to one up the previous game. (In this context that means halo 3 not reach.) where halo 3 was the finale to the original series. this game didn't need to be big, in fact I argue it should have toned down and started it's own story. but it was acting like it was the biggest event of the century. Now that alone isn't a problem. but the story it is telling isn't... my favorite. I don't like what they did with chief and Cortana especially. Chief felt a little too talkative. Which is weird to say, but i think that chief was always a stalwart kinda character. when he talked it felt like it held gravity and weight. he spoke when he needed and it was powerful. here it feels... like a friend talking to a friend which is fine but he just comes off as really boring. the delivery on these lines wasn't great and it comes off as forced drama. I kinda like Cortana going from sassy in total control of the situation to helpless to this cancerous thing she has. but at the same time. seeing her like that for the whole game... I just got kinda bored. I feel like she was a totally different character. which is why i say i like the story it just ins't a halo story. these characters have chemistry, I just feel like I haven't seen them develop that chemistry. and don't even get me started on the covenant. why are the elites evil again? I sure hope 5 explains that one....

Overall I don't hate 4, I do enjoy this version of the forge mode the most. so I do find myself coming back now and then. and despite my grievances with the covenant I do enjoy fighting the prometheans and despite their weapons being broken they are fun to use.

now onto 5. Most of my issues from 4 stand true here but... just so much worse.

the gunplay feels slower. I hate that they seem to be trying to emulate CoD here. But they still seem to be trying to be halo gameplay so the whole thing comes off as this Frankenstein's monster of gameplay. It's now slow and not fun. I really hate the designs here the most. a lot of the covenant stuff got a redesign and it's all ugly. It was cool seeing the elite homeworld. I really enjoyed those levels the most actually. but it was overshadowed by poor level design. bad gunplay. The story isn't even like 4 where it was okay but not a good halo story. I felt like the characters where all lobotomized between games. Locke sucks. i hate him so much. i really, really hate the use of that terrible "The government thinks the good guy is evil now" plot. it's never good, there is no reason for anyone to think that chief and his team are evil. it's... infuriating. Oh and the team. I hate the team system. halo was never really hard. but now... I played through halo 5 on heroic on my first playthrough and died twice because I kept getting revived. One of those deaths was the last level. Cortana... I... just. Okay, so they killed her in the last game, people hated that, so they brought her back... but she's evil? why? I know why, the game says why. but It's a piss poor reason. They probably shouldn't have killed their new villain in the last game. lot of plot holes... speaking of. The covenant. Why are the elites having a civil war? why are some of them part of the covenant. Firstly, we killed the covenant in three. so they shouldn't even be a thing anymore. furthermore. why would the elites join them?! Let me refresh your memory here, halo 2, the level uprising. opens with the arbiter walking a trail lined with elite bodies.

The prophets basically ordered 66'd them!

If we were fighting brutes that would be one thing, but no. they brought elites back! why are we still fighting elites? are the brutes just not a thing? no they are because halo wars 2 we got the banished, halo infinite is bringing them back, which is great... even though we're still fighting elites... ugh.

at this point I'm practically nitpicking and i could continue to do so for hours! I really am just a fan of well made and consistent storytelling and gameplay. I really don't like 4, and I absolutely hate 5. I don't want to be a purist but I can't really look past the problems with these games. big and small. I know the original games aren't perfect but they were still fun and well made. I want halo infinite to be good. I love this series. I've put so much time into them. Why would I want them to fail? but as it stands. 343 doesn't seem to really understand this series and what makes it good. 4 and 5 clearly had more focus put into the multiplayer. and you could argue that the multiplayer is what people want, but i disagree.

Halo CE, 2, 3, O.D.S.T and Reach. all had amazing stories and multiplayer modes. if 5 out of 7 games can be fun with friends and on my own, then clearly it's possible. I just... want this game series to be good again. In my initial post I made it clear i didn't care for four. And that's because I see 4 as the beginning of the end. As this series was plunged into garbage. I want infinite to be good. But don't get angry at me when i say I don't have much faith in the developers. they are, as I said, 2 in the hole.

TED talk over. thank you for coming.

Well now, that's one big line of text. But, like you said, I asked for it and asked for it I did. I'm glad we could get a conversation started.

I suppose I'll take this as a step-by-step response, really mirror you're reply

Visual Design: Not that I'm trying to invalidate your argument but the information given on this topic seems to come down to personal preference. There's nothing wrong with personal preference, after all, you are inclined to have your own personal opinion. Mine is that I appreciate the attention to detail and realistic textures. Unfortunately, this has no real implications toward the actual quality of the game. As for why things are the way they are in the actual game, I think it's most likely that Cortana upgraded Chief's armor during his cryosleep. I don't have any proof to back this up but sometimes you just have to use your imagination to fill in the gaps. I can't come to a complete argument for the Dawn, once I finished Halo 3 I thought it did look quite different but until I get Halo 4 to work for me on the PC I can't say for sure. As for the Covenant, I can't say I see any real difference, this just seems like a non-issue to me, no offense.

Gunplay: So we have no issues on the jet pack? Okay, I don't really find a lack of a few seconds worthy of too much criticism anyway. As for the guns, I'd say I would agree. However, I don't think it's the guns as much as it is the Prometheans. Whenever I shoot at the Covenant it does feel faster, like cutting butter with a hot knife but when I fight the Prometheans it feels like I'm trying to cut through a chunk of obsidian with a handsaw. I don't think this is a mistake, however, I think it was deigned this way to make the Prometheans seem more powerful. This might just be my own observations so be sure to tell me if you agree. My argument stands firm for the Promethean guns themselves, they were powerful to make the Prometheans seem powerful.

Story: It seems like most of your grievances with the story stem from mostly how the characters act. Again, this point seems largely based out of personal preference so instead of countering this point I'll just fill in with my own opinion. No doubt your familiar with Chief and Cortana's experience together up until this point, Halo 1 discovering a super weapon and discovering The Flood, Halo 2 murdering two prophets and getting separated, and Halo 3 reuniting after Cortana get's uploaded with the logic plague (probably) yada yada yada. In Halo 4 I think that relationship was shown as coming to a head before Halo 5. Chief is more relaxed around Cortana considering all they've been through, they depend on each other more, they open up to each other more. I won't lie, sometimes it seems like they were supposed to be portrayed as lovers, which is weird, but I don't think that's what 343 was going for. Cortana hadn't seen Chief, her greatest ally, for 4 years. Considering how little they see each other in Halo 3, that seems like even more. Cortana's feeling a serious mental deprivation from contact with other entities. She tries to distract herself over the years but it just keeps bringing her back to Chief, the one so close and yet so far. Once she does wake him up however, she realizes there's a terrible secret she must keep from him: her rampancy. With all they've gone through Chief would be destroyed emotionally in hearing about it which would be in direct opposition to her goals. Eventually, of course, Chief would press the issue and the knowledge that it's a fixable problem drives them through the following events. They'd relocate the UNSC despite running into trouble with the Diadact which puts them at ease for the time being. The Captain would drive these tensions between Cortana and Chief even further when he forces them off the Infinity. Then, using all their knowledge and skill in coordination, Chief and Cortana would defeat the Diadact, saving the day once again. Though this time, there would be a difference, some terrible absence: Cortana couldn't rejoin with Chief. She knew this and she'd need to find some way to tell him. But she had been given a new form if only for a brief moment, a form in which she could afirm that the man she'd been designated to was real, that her purpose was real, a form in which she could say goodbye to Chief in the realest way possible. It was something no other AI could've done before her: complete her mission in the most meaningful way possible. And then, she was gone. Perhaps forever if indeed this new Cortana we see in Halo 5 was just one of her splinters. As for Chief's attitude, that kind of brings me back to what I said before with Cortana: they've developed quite the friendship. They trust each other more, they rely on each other more, and they've been through the most with each other. It stands to reason Chief would be more at ease around her and throughout most of the game they are only in contact with humans for only a few very short periods. Personally, I appreciate that 343 added more of a character to Master Chief. I know that he's supposed to be more of a vehicle for the player in Halo 1-3 but I don't really buy that stuff. The protagonist is undoubtedly one of the most important assets of a story, if you're protagonist has little to no character, it can really make the story feel lacking. Besides, I enjoy picking apart the thoughts and actions of characters I'm charged with controlling. It just feels more... real.

Unfortunately, I can't move on to the Halo 5 part of the argument as I have little experience with it. I've never really played it, but I have seen a play through of it on YouTube. So you can see why I really don't have much in the way of authority in judging whether or not Halo 5 is good or bad and the opinions I do have don't range very far because of my lack of experience but when I do get it when it comes to PC I'll be sure to tack on an addendum to my overview for you.

In conclusion, I hope I've adequately answered/countered/mirrored all you're points of complaint. That's what I value most about conversations like this: mutual education and the swapping of each other's character.

cortana said herself she upgraded him in cryo.
Cortana said she upgraded his suit's firmware. That's it.
The armor appearance was a purely artistic decision to change up that did not receive a suitable lore explanation. This can be seen in him wearing that armor in an early cutscene when Dr. Halsey presents Cortana to him on Reach, or the Grey Team animation, where they are wearing that "Gen 2 armor" when fighting Thel Vadamee before the events of Reach.
You anniversary event where you shove game modes we don't want to play down our throat was absolutely ridiculous. Just put a game mode I can chose to activate or not.
