How to turn on subtitles?

I keep seeing people say that CEA and (whenever it gets added later this year) Halo 4 support in-game subtitles, but I can't figure out how to activate them. When I go to the subtitles option in Settings, the only options are for when playing in another language or completely turned off, neither of which being what I'm looking for. I'm a native English speaker, just have poor hearing and would like to be able to pick up what characters are saying over all the explosions and gunfire lmao. As it stands, I can't even get subtitles working in cutscenes, let alone during gameplay.

P.S. 343 why do Halo 2 and 3 not support subtitles? :( not cool y'all

Hi, when you look at the properties for MCC, what language is it set to? I've got subtitles for Halo 2 & 3 so 343 does support it.

My game is set to English. Like I said, the game seems to support subtitles for other languages, but thats not what I'm looking for. I just wanna understand what people are saying over all the gunfire haha

Ah, well, I don't think there is subtitles for the in-game dialogue for the most part unfortunately. Halo: CE might do, but the other games I don't think so.

CE does have some subtitles, but they're not everywhere or for all dialogue.

You should have
Automatic: Subtitles are shown when playing in a language without localized dialogue.
OFF: Subtitles will not be displayed in game.
ON: Subtitles will be displayed in game.

Go into change language and check to see if voice and text are both set to English.

Thank you! Seems like an obvious answer, but I swear I didn't have the "on" option until I checked just now haha. Dunno if it was a glitch or it got fixed just now in the ODST update, but either way, thank you! Got them turned on now :)
