Halo 2 has a scene of branding but it should be fine too, i mean, it's on an alien so..
For my kids I am less waiting on an age and more waiting on how well they follow a narrative since much of Halo's storytelling is subtle (at least in the OT). In general I would say 6 on the youngest side and 12 on the oldest.
Get it and play for yourself if you really want to see. game goes on sale often and only takes about 50 hours to go through all the campaigns.
