Halo MCC won't launch and I can't seem to fix it no matter what I try.

Hey guys,

So I posted about this the other day, but the issue remains unresolved.

I am honestly desperate to get this working cause it's one of my favourite games from my childhood and it feels pretty crummy that it won't even launch.

The issue goes more or less like so:
Every time I try to open the launcher it gives me the pop-up:

FailureAn error occurred while updating Halo: The Master Chief Collection (missing executable) : D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection\mcc\binaries\win64\mcc-win64-shipping.exe

And when I try to launch it as an administrator I get the following four error messages:

The code execution cannot proceed becauseSimpleNetworkLibrary-x64-Release.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

The code execution cannot proceed because XAudio2_9Redist.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

The code execution cannot proceed because HaloNetworkLayer_Ship.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

The code execution cannot proceed because cell_Release_x64_4_0.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.


Since my original post, I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game again, alongside temporarily disabling anti-virus real-time protection in the vain hope that it might achieve something. But it still gives me an error message each time I try to open the launcher.

It's really frustrating and any help anyone can offer would honestly be music to my ears.

try validating your game files
Also launch it from steam. You cant launch the game by clicking the executable file

I forgot to mention that I have validated my game files and no problems were found.

Each time I have launched it, I have launched it from Steam.

Go into the launch options settings for the game on steam, and select to launch with anticheat disabled

I verified the game files, and launched it through Steam with anti-cheat disabled, and still won't load and says it's enabled lol. Going to try to redownload and try again.

Am having trouble getting in the man menu for master chief collection it well load in with the intro sound for 3 seconds then I wait 3 min then it says crash info game is bout to close it well repeat the same thing every time I login or try to

i tried to sign in under a different log in and now it wont let me sign in under a different one, what can i do? it gets stuck on the press enter screen and then goes to an error occured screen, then asks to either cancel or retry, and neither option will progress.

This issue has been resolved many times over the years, and somehow you found one of the posts that didn't include your fix. I know that I've reposted the fix here literally dozens of times, and I've done so on the actual thread you made about this issue, but I'll post it here as well just in case someone else comes across this thread looking for a solution:

Basically, your PC saves your login credentials, and all the game does is call them up from your PC.

Go into your PC Settings, go to your Credentials Manager, and delete XBL|DeviceKey. The next time you open up the game, it will force a first-time login page, which will create a new XBL|DeviceKey.

You'll also want to make sure your drivers are fully updated, although occasionally the error is that the updated driver is causing a crash, which necessitates a rollback. If the issue persists, then you might want to reinstall the anti-cheat, or see if you have any conflicting programs that would be interfering with the MCC. It would most likely be something you recently did/didn't do, considering as how you have hundreds of hours in the MCC.

Thanks for the reply. All drivers are up to date and I have verified cache. The game crashes just as I press enter on start screen. A little box pops up after pressing enter(looks like an announcement window) and game crashes. This has been happening ever since the beginning of august.

That is unfortunate. Does it still crash if you try starting with the anti-cheat disabled? Do you have any mods for the game?

You may want to try re-downloading just the core MCC launcher and see if that fixes things. This can be done a few different ways such as copying and pasting the files needed for the actual games, then de-selecting them from the "manage your DLC" page on Steam, deleting the original files, and then reinstalling the MCC. If it launches properly, then the issue was the launcher, and you can copy and paste all of those files you backed up. Alternatively, if you don't have enough memory, a full uninstall/reinstall would work. Again, if it launches properly, then the issue was the launcher.

If that doesn't work, then you might want to edit the config file and reset everything to the default settings and see if that helps

Config file editing
The config file is located in; C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\AppData\LocalLow\MCC\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

The main one, which has graphics settings, is GameUserSettings.ini

Inside this file you'll see the follow

There are some additional graphics settings like resolution and HDR that can be set through this config file, but the above are the main ones.

Keep in mind that the config file, for some reason, has 6 different presets defined for each variable, like so;

MouseSensitivity[0]=1.000000

I have no idea why it does this but I would guess that it has something to do with being a console port where multiple accounts could be logged into the game. To know which number you should change for your config file, just look at the settings and see which number corresponds to a setting you have already set in-game. In my case I am on number 5, as can be seen by the different mouse sensitivity setting in the above lines.

So far I haven't tried setting things to higher than 3 but every value between 0.5 and 3 seems to work.

The fix for most people is to go to Halo MCC in GeForce Experience and set it to Fullscreen OR Windowed through there (if one doesn't work, try the other), then open the game change it back to your desired setting, if you already haven't.
Ps I found this on Reddit and it actually worked for me!
