achievements not unlocking
I recently played ODST and never got any achievements for it and I noticed some things were greyed out on MCC. If you look at the profile it says I've never played Halo at all ever but when I go to campaigns it shows that I've completed the chapters in the games (up to and including ODST). I also noticed that whenever I would launch the game it would be in xbox live network mode and I would always change it to LAN but that didn't seem to affect anything. I was also able to play co op yesterday but yeah I'm still not getting achievements and at least one record (I think its my xbox gamertag) is saying I've never played halo and im not getting steam achievements for anything. What can I do?

I tried submitting a ticket on a halo support website but I was getting HTTP Error 500 and it would never let me actually submit a ticket. Ples halp.

check your dns settings, sometimes if you are using a private dns with ad blocking features your achievements will not unlock, this has happened with several people, on halo support forums they listed domains to whitelist so the achievements can unlock or to just change the dns servers, plus odst does have some achievements that are pretty broken, did you try doing the basics, like verifying game files etc?

After you mentioned it I had tried verifying files and just did again. It could very well be a dns thing and I can't change it on certain network connections I use because I don't own them. I did notice in game in the network settings, I just get spinning loading circles and all the region servers say unavailable whenever it finally decides to populate the list but after setting it to LAN, I was able to play co op campaign with my buddy and yet I still wasn't getting achievements.

Hopefully once Halo finally is able to talk to the servers it needs, it'll give me the achievements for what the game saves recognize like completing campaigns? I don't know if that may or may not apply to because aren't some achievements unlocked for certain stunts you pull at that moment?

Also, if anyone is able to find those IP's to whitelist that might be helpful to post so someone else who's having this issue can have em. That also tends to be helpful for people researching this issue and seeing a steam post mentioning that solution.

they mentioned it here: https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037573011-Achievement-progression-and-unlock-issues-in-Halo-The-Master-Chief-Collection
well the game saving your progress can get buggy, if mcc recognizes your progress then they will unlock, but sometimes it doesn't and you have to redo them, most people had faced a similar issue their's eventually did got unlocked, certain network settings interfere with communicating to their servers properly, and some achievements are kind of broken.

Thank you, Espieglerie. You've been invaluable.

So the IP's that need to be whitelisted are as follows:

halowaypoint.com
*.halowaypoint.com
*.playfabapi.com
vortex.data.microsoft.com

It also mentions to make sure you haven't set any skulls on that would interfere with achievements and that you haven't disabled the anti cheat which could also interfere with achievements. You may also need to wait a few days (up to 3) for achievements if you're using campaign playlists (which I was doing).

Are playing campaign playlists bad? I thought that was how you did it in MCC. I remember when I first got it, It would just bring me back to the menu after I beat the first mission so I was like "what? I wanna play the whole game." and what worked for me was playlists.

they are not bad, the playlists count towards campaign completion but they're not treated like a campaign mode in main menu, which are divided into chapters, playlists are missions arranged into a single playlist for continuous play, there are issues regarding the campaign playlists with achievements for counting it as game completion, btw you can resume the campaign from the main menu if you are playing it from there and it would continue from there.

I may try it again to see if maybe I was mistaken because I was new and selected the wrong thing. It was honestly a major criticism of the game for me and if I just did it wrong, that would be great. I will try your suggestion, Sir. Thank you.

no problem, usually the achievements should've pop up after 24/72 hours, if it still doesn't work the normal way we'll try diagnosing other things, you should check your progress on halowaypoint.com to see if it says you completed the game, you're getting your regions reset and getting an error on their site for submitting a ticket, this could be a particular issue with the network somehow, when i first completed odst my achievements did not unlock, which was quite infuriating, idk what is up with their servers.

On Halo Waypoint it only saves I've completed the first game but in the MCC client it shows I've completed all games except reach which I'm working on now. I actually just beat Halo 4 today for the first time. Very good game.

On Halo Waypoint it only saves I've completed the first game on normal and theres a loading error on "highest skill rank" and it doesnt load a thumbnail on the left side even when refreshing and stuff but in the MCC client it shows I've completed all games except reach which I'm working on now. I actually just beat Halo 4 today for the first time. Very good game.

I see, so it only saved the progress for CE being completed, it didn't save your progress for other games so it might be why their's didn't got unlocked cause of the campaign playlist issue or perhaps a network thing, did CE's achievements got unlocked on steam? if it did then it saved its' progress and recognizes it. I agree halo 4 is a really good game don't understand the hate for it.

When I first got MCC it seemed to work fine. I beat Halo 1 & 2 at that time then I think I moved it to my backup storage drive and wasn't playing it then I changed my operating system and reinstalled it and it wasn't working since then and now I'm on a different computer and its still not working. It only worked for a little while quite a while ago you see.

did you installed it from the backup you created via steam? or is it a clean installation of the entire game? MCC is quite big and steam needs to verify the integrity of its files, it also has anti cheat, which if its files are meddled by some factor can cause issue, it runs on kernel level and need those privileges (and as we know achievements don't unlock without it nor does it saves your progress if disabled), this can happen during the backup as it's compressing them, sometimes it doesn't backup the files properly, this is a bigger issue w HDD's if you are using one, the MCC launcher not being installed properly, having some files missing, can also be the culprit. and if manual backup, it always raises problems half of the time.
