Why does the ai suck so bad in reach
Its only my team mates too, they get in the way. They dont attack and just get shot at until they turn, They dont kill any elites so im forced to fight a rocket basically alone with a moving barricade, they end up shooting me more than the elites. They suck with accuracy, even my dead grandma can shoot better

Halo's friendly AI has always been lackluster, but Reach really made it point for them to suck. I guess like many things Reach, it was to make things more "gritty", "realistic", "hopeless", "immersive", and other such nonsense. There's mods that address Reach's *terrible* friendly AI, but the base game *really* had a hate on for allied AI. And it's pretty much entirely worse in Halo 4.

Its a fantastic game i will admit, but i cant stand when im on heroic or legendary and i die due to the ai killing me or blocking my path of attracting enemys by coming near me and out of cover

God only knows how many times I let her drive the warthog just for her to do every single stupidest thing in the UNSC military (including driving me off cliffs, into incoming boost ramming wraiths, etc...). She makes the army troopers look like good drivers. Genius 10/10, Driving skills 0/10 #ClassicKat

PS: No wonder she is a meme amongst the Halo community, much like Dust and Echoes (we will still go back for him in 2024 :D)

You can not make a thread about the AI in Halo Reach without mentioning Kat. Now, if you read/watch reviews about Halo games history you will know Reach has by far the weakest AI overall of all of the Bungie games. The AI peaked in Halo 3 and ODST (the friendly one). As for enemy AI it actually peaked at Halo CE. This is my assessement of course.

Some suggestions of YouTube content abou AI history of Halo games (search topics):
-The evolution of the Marines
-The evolution of the Grunts
-The evolution of the Elites
-The evolution of the Jackals
-The evolution of the Hunters
-The evolution of the Brutes
-The evolution of the Drones
-etc...

At least she’s a decent shot, considering her loadout is an AR and Magnum troughout the whole game.

The AI is bad on purpose. Bungie didn't want marines and Noble Team to kill everything in the player's stead for some reason.
What I find unacceptable is how janky marines move in Reach and how they gets outranged even with long range weapons (ie: spartan laser marine getting outranged by ghosts).

Speaking about Marine/Trooper jankiness in Reach, while they have the animations to melee, they have no frames where they can do melee damage. An even then, they have no defined melee damage. Also, for most human weapons, they actually do *less* outright damage as they continue their bursts/the difficulty goes higher. They already have a damage debuff with those weapons, but it gets worse as they keep shooting (though not with all human weapons, like most vehicle mounted turrets and the Splaser). Troopers/Marines also do not gain any extra health on higher difficulties, unlike the enemy. Their AI lost several behaviors from Halo 3, along with general AI downgrading. And yes, with most human weapons their weapon ranges are inferior to the Covenant weapons (giving them Covenant weapons has a good chance to actually improve their range. Unless it's like an FRG to a Rocket).

Friendly AI is always meant to be artificial as to not steal the player enjoyment of the game (this has been the case since Halo CE). However, in Reach the issue is not only the downgrades of the friendly AI but also the upgrades made to the Covenant from Halo 3 (mainly Hunters and Elites will massacre friendly AI by the dozens, especially on higher difficulties). Also such encounters happen too often during the campaign, sadly.

Even Enemy AI can be atrocious, During my play through of Halo CE Anniversary Two Elites got stuck? by a crossbeam in the ship and I stood there slowly shooting them until they died on Legendary, I kinda expected them to jump out at some point but the just stood there. Allies will run and get killed by my alien turret fire. Maybe Halo Infinite is better?

That’s odd but then again I plsy Hale CE Classic. Never encountered a bug like you describe beyond Marines having the highest team kílling amongst themselves of any Bungie games.

Fun Fact: Catch skull only affects enemies in Halo CE. In Halo 3 they affect both so Marines will kíll themselves with all those thrown grenades. I tried it once but I will never use it again. This is one of the skulls that got a revamp even though the description of those are exactly the same.
