For every Halo game there is a multiplayer portion that you must download for co-op.
What system are they on? Console and PC can't play campaign together unfortunately. Same with Windows and Linux.
Ahhh. Thanks for correcting that. Wasn't aware. It's unfortunate it's just those two.
I'd imagine Windows and Linux problem would still persist though. But if i remember correctly the fix for that is having your friend on Windows send over some of their files.... Then you temporarily put them in the Halo directory. Disables Multiplayer until you revert, though.
Could be wrong, though! Been awhile since i played campaign with anyone lol
What we found was that the system auto-disconnects players who don't load in within a short time after the first person who loads the level. Apparently it does because it assumes it's a bad connection and disconnects them to avoid it. In our case, my computer (desktop pc) was loading the game much faster than his (laptop).
Our solution was to make me take longer to load and him to load faster. So I upped the settings on my graphics and he lowered his and we finally connected.
Hope this might help.
