Basically it's a story-based game series with an ever-expanding multiplayer added.
So you would recommend the story then? Is there a chronological order?
It's a compelling science-fiction narrative, with some plot-relevant horror at times. The games have an order which will appear in the menu. Halo Reach is a prequel to the first game (Halo CE), but it probably doesn't matter storywise whether you play Halo CE or Reach first, but Halo CE is much better at introducing everything you encounter, rather than just tossing everything at you from the start.
Thanks just bought it!
Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo 3: ODST
Halo: Reach
Halo 4
Order of story:
Halo: Reach
Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo 2:
Halo 3: ODST (this game's story take place during the early missions of Halo 2)
Halo 3
Halo 4
And yes, Halo absolutely has a good campaign. One of the best of all video games ever. Just don't count halo 4 as canon.
Halo Reach has a wave survival mode which is fun and highly customizable too if you're only doing offline. Custom online games are really fun too though.
Enjoy it.
Edit: Remember to enable the grunt birthday party skull. Makes every headshot a blast
Halo CE
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo ODST
Halo Reach
If after playing the first few games you find yourself enjoying the story I would recommend reading the novels. I recommend:
The Fall of Reach
The Cole Protocol
Ghosts of Onyx
The novel "Fall of Reach" and the game "Halo Reach" deal with the same story. Reading the novel first may enhance your appreciation for the game. Lastly, by the time you get to Halo 3 the story begins to become a little more convoluted. I recommend the blog at ascendantjustice.com. Its very good and if im not mistaken, the author was eventually hired by 343i.
