Can't Decide Between MnK And Controller...
(not trying to start a flame war)
I've used controller for the majority of my time on Halo, but I recently switched to MnK because I figured aiming, banshees, etc would be superior. THEN I heard that most competitive players use controllers, and that aim assist made controllers way better then MnKs. Which is right? I hear conflicting info all the time and I'm not sure which one to stick with. What do you guys think?

Controller. MnK feels nice but the controller aim assist for all these games were made when they weren't on PC and were console exclusive. So really that had no reason to try and balance it. That doesn't mean you can't play with MnK though, a few of my friends use MnK and they do just fine.

I prefer controller on all but MnK on Halo also feels pretty smooth and fun once in a while espescially Halo 3 and Reach on high FPS

it's a shoter so M&K ofc, the best way to play shoters and rts
except when it comes to PVP in Halo since these games were made for console they have a build in aimbot (pretty much does aim and track for you, so why play at all?) when you use controler, which means controler in PVP is just OP (artificially)
without the aimbot controlers would actually need some skill same like M&K

Controller is usually more ergonomically comfortable, and you have all of that muscle memory ready to go. It's pretty easy for an average player to become decent with a controller. Ironically, some of the really good controller users hate the aim assist because it interferes with some of the shots they're trying to make.

However, M&Kb lets you get some crazy movements and ultra-precise shots, so you can out-maneuver controller players in close quarters as well as do ridiculous Banshee movements. The skill ceiling is much higher, but you don't get as much assistance as controller players do.

The pro scene is a bit weird for Halo, because pretty much all of the old pros grew up using controllers for this franchise, so it's kind of hard to fight years of playing to relearn a completely different set of controls.

As someone who grew up playing Unreal Tournament 2004 on the PC, KnM. Plus the mouse makes aiming more accurate(Though I use a Trackball).

Well PvP is all that matters because PvE doesn't take much effort either way.

And I play on BTB a lot, so I'm constantly using vehicles. I mentioned above that I'd switched to MnK, and now Banshees feel OP. Switching to controller means I lose all of that. But at the same time, I was a pretty good shot with a DMR UNTIL I switched to MnK, after which I did terribly in any solo matchmaking. Snipers feel better with it though, so I honestly can't decide.

But you have to take aim assist into consideration.

There's no Aim Assist in Unreal Tournament. You can move the mouse (or ball for a Trackball) a hair more easily to line up a shot. This is one of the reasons why I use K&M on foot in No Man's Sky, and use Controller for controlling my Starship, hence the "mouse makes aiming more accurate.

Yeah I just mean in Halo there is aim assist, so MnK might not necessarily be the best option.

From what I understand, Aim Assist is basically Legalized Aim-bot, so you're not really getting better. I do understand if a game like Armored Core, Ace Combat, etc... has Aim Assist for in-lore reasons (ACs and most other mechs have targeting systems, and a purchasable part in Ace Combat 7 allows your gun to lock-on your target.), but if certain guns in Halo don't have that sort of technology lore-wise, then it really shouldn't to begin with.

Welcome to PC gaming, not a single thing on Halo feels better on controller over MnK. God tier vehicle handling (Better than most games nowadays), and better aim than with aim assist lol. If you want to actually enjoy the game and not have to ask yourself if its a MnK or controller game, just play MnK on everything. Other than Forza, roguelikes or soulslike games.. MnK.

Happy gaming, Halo is a fantastic title to learn and get better at MnK aiming and play. If PvP isn't your thing, countless hours in all campaigns are available to better yourself. :er_heart:
I don't plan on staying on PC, and PvP is about 90% of my time spent on Halo. I kind of like controller better because I can sit back and bring it where I want vs having to stay in the same spot. And MnK IS better aim plus you can turn a lot quicker. And I wreak havoc on everyone if I have a Banshee because of the crazy moves I can do with MnK (it's commonly agreed upon that MnK is superior when it comes to Banshees). But I'm just saying that everyone seems to think you're at a disadvantage playing with MnK because most people are using Controllers. And MOST FPS games have some sort of aim assist, so it's not uncommon. And the social aspect of being able to sit back with friends and play is nice. I honestly don't know which to choose.
