Is Halo CE 100% accurate to the original?
Does anyone know if the game has been fixed to identical to the original Xbox version? I'm kind a "game preservationist" and like to play games as they are originally intended. And why couldn't 343 get the source code for Halo CE and get that running? (probably a stupid question because I have no idea how game development actually works) I know they used the Gearbox port because it already had online capabilities but 343 could've likely made it better than Gearbox. Should I use ZEMU instead?

Some of the original Xbox textures have been restored iirc. Other than that it’s Custom Edition with a shiny coat of paint (Anniversary) on top.
i miss the original Halo 2 with super bounces. This version of Halo 2 Classic doesn't even feel like the old days much at all.

Wouldn't it have been possible for 343 to get the source code from the Xbox version? Modders have been able to make mod for the original Halo CE for a long time.

I don’t think it’s really a big enough deal for them to bother. Gearbox only changed, like, 10 textures.
we don't even have Halo 5.

no its not the same. they patched glitches and speedrun techniques for no reason and remember a comment somewhere over 5 years ago saying the game would be untouched. so it ended up being a lie.

Yes it's pretty much the same as the original, the vast majority of issues have been fixed at this point. Yes there are tiny discrepancies I'm sure but nothing you'd be able to notice.

well not all for no reason. some of the fixes were just side effects to making the game better but unfortunately removed bugs that people enjoyed. if you want to play the OG then maybe look into the emulated version.

or Custom Edition

I know little about game development, but to add to the confusion, Halo was also released on PC originally. I don't know if there was a difference between the original PC and Xbox versions, but if there was they may have stuck with the PC version.

Halo Custom Edition was released a year after Combat Evolved was on the xbox, and pretty much the only things that were changed were a couple textures and modding capability. Halo MCC/Halo CE Anniversary uses the Gearbox port of the game (Custom Edition) for it’s version.

if op is that anal about things why not just play CE on an original Xbox at that point

custom edition was the best version anyway.

There were other changes that I hear people complain about, such as the spawns and bullet registration being changed, which the latter makes sense since it was intended for MKB. Plus some map changes such as adding a flamethrower.
