Game crash on Sacred Icon, "Fatal error"

So I'm going through Halo 2 and I got to a point on Sacred Icon where the game consistently crashes. At the part where you have to defend a circle of turrets (driven by your elite buddies) from waves and waves of flood.

I defended for a good while but then after a while, the game freezes with a fatal error message, just after the friendly phantom comes overhead and helps shoot the flood. This happens consistently when I reopen the game and continue from last checkpoint.

Anyone know the reason or a fix for this? I haven't tried restarting the mission, which I know would probably be an easy solution, but eh I don't feel like doing it all again if I don't have to.

Have no idea what was causing this. If you run into this problem and don't want to replay this aids mission, Try: Validating game files, and then looking only at the phantom and not attacking any enemies (run evasive maneuvers). I think the crash may have been flood dying. Don't know which of these steps solved the problem but it's what I did and it worked. 343 is wack.

I have the exact same problem, and was searching for a fix but even evasive maneuvers didn't work... I tried valdidating game files, windowed mode , updated nvidia drivers, nothing, still crashes when some part of the flood dies, even when killed by the elites...

old or new graphics mode?

does it still crashed capped at 60 fps?

I have the same problem and none of the tips solved the problem. Fortunately, this error appears at the end of the "Sacred Icon" mission, and you can simply manually launch another mission to bypass this error. This way I completed the rest of the game without any further errors.
