what is the difference between 34 bit and 64 bit
Krowbar200801 Feb 10, 2021 @ 3:31pm
64 bit takes advantage of higher ram so the game runs better.... usually makes more of a difference in more demanding games tho. This can run on a toaster

Does it make that much of a difference on these games
I feel like this thread is full of people only understanding this from a surface level. Is this game 32-bit at heart or not? I was hoping for an answer but apparently nobody knows. The main menu and Halo 2 Anniversary are certainly 64-bit but the rest of the series could be 32-bit. That's only ever really going to matter if the game needs more than 3.4GB of RAM. It's a better question to ask if the original Xbox or Xbox 360 were 32-bit and if 343i has bypassed those limitations at all when porting the games over.

MCC uses 10 separate game engines at a minimum (and it might be 11!). There's only two versions of MCC: The one for Xbox One and the one for PC.

EDIT: MCC uses 7 different game engines.

64-bit gives more performance same as DirectX 11 or DirectX 12

I agree. I do not think this game is running in 64bit mode... But I just bought this game and I do not know how to set it to 64bits if it is indeed running in 32bits mode instead of 64.

Know what it is strange? Halo 3 and Halo 4 both run like a charm on my Intel Graphics UHD 620. But I have been facing stuterring issues while running Halo 1 and Halo 2. It seems like the old games are running underneath the remastered version of both games themselves.

32bit is very very old and runs bad on modern systems.

All of these are wrong. 32-bit compared to 64-bit is not inherently any of these things. It depends entirely on how the program is coded. It does have limits and won't support superior versions of many programs these days. RAM can also increase FPS on some titles but that depends entirely on how the game itself is coded and what is the bottleneck on the machine it is being played on.

Edit: Krowbar does have a point.

MCC-Win64-Shipping.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)
Platform: 64 bit

It is a 64-bit program. It's strange that it's installed where 32-bit programs usually are but I guess that's because that's where Steam is installed. If anyone can say why they think they have a 32-bit program it would help.

They basically are. I'm also bummed that I get stuttering while playing older titles. I've chalked it up to engine limitations and that Microsoft or 343i haven't invested more on optimizing them.

Apparently the 64 bit version for windows in only available on the xbox side of microsoft. so if your on 10 then you can download and install using the microsoft store, sadly you cant download it if you own it on steam. from what i have been reading

What are either of you talking about? Halo: The Master Chief Collection is an Xbox One game that was ported to PC. The game is undoubtedly 64-bit except for maybe some of the game engines which might have ran as 32-bit games on Xbox or Xbox 360. Even then they could have been ported over to 64-bit.

The Microsoft Store version (the one you get from Xbox Game Pass) and the Steam version are the same game. The only difference is that the MS store version runs as a locked down UWP instead of an exe.

If you want help I first need to know why you think the game is 32-bit. Where did this come up? Was there an error message? A popup?
