This is pretty bogus and I will likely try for a refund as I can't play the game without submitting a bunch of personal info.

Downloaded and installed and opened Halo package. Created new outlook account as requested. Play 1.5 levels of campaign of Halo 1 and closed the game. Next time I try and play it say my account violated terms and service and is locked. In order to unlock my account the amount of personal information requested, even credit card info, is absurd.

I don't have Xbox/xbox live, so I reckon because I don't, I'm supposed to be signed up for that??

Anyway, now whenever I open Halo it prompts with a password recovery only and I don't even have the option to try and create a new account. It seems the sign in is glitched.

Does anyone know where to delete memory files associated with the game, or is that stored somewhere without access? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but I get the same prompt.

Overall, bummed at how many hoops you have to jump through just to play a game nowadays.

Bizargh. Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately none of those solutions were successful for me. After I deleted xbl device credentials the game crashes on sign in request.

I will hold out a bit until I opt for a refund but i'm not optimistic.

Same crap.
Yesterday they forced me to create a Microsoft account, and today they’ve locked my Microsoft account.
Why do I even need an account for a single-player game??

Because it needs a Microsoft account so the cross-platform matchmaking can function. Halo is not a singleplayer only game so in order for you to play any of the online modes it needs that Microsoft/Xbox account.

The game is crashing for me when it tries to open the Windows Login window. I booted the game after August 2024. I didn't have any issues back then. Anyone else facing this issue?

Found a solution which is ridiculous but worked for me. I use a local account so I launched the Xbox app which resulted in sign in to Xbox app and then launched Halo via Steam. This finally resulted in the login pop up showing instead of immediately crashing
