Can't play as elites in any matchmaking games?
On the 360 the only mode I played was custom games so maybe it's always been like this and i'm just out of the loop but has it always been forced spartians for matchmaking?

for the game modes that are not spartan v elite unless it says otherwise you will be forced as a spartan. which is why the majority of reaches progression system is based around unlocking swag for your spartan

You can only play as elites in Invasion, Dino Blasters, and Elite Slayer. Elites have a bigger hitbox, move faster, have evade, and have faster shield and hp regen. You have to select your preference in the options in order to play as Elites in Customs.

Elites are only playable in the following game modes

-Elite Slayer
-Invasion
-Blargball (Elite Grifball)
-SVE Slayer (Spartan vs Elites Slayer) don't know if this mode appears in the playlist though.

And any new custom game modes that 343 may add to the playlist that may allow elites to be played on them.

Why I love Halo 3. Should have been a mainstay in multiplayer for us fans of them. Not like multiplayer matters to the main story anyway.

Elites in Multiplayer became a thing in Halo 2 that persisted into Halo 3. In those games you can play as an Elite in any gamemode. It was an awesome addition by Bungie, and personally it was the coolest thing ever. (Atleast for me.)

Halo: Reach came out after Halo 3, and 343 Industries didn't like having Covenant Elites as player characters for some reason, despite their cool design.

In Halo 4 and Halo 5, they were completely absent with the excuse of "They're too resource-demanding to make". Much to my dismay at the time.

Anyway, once the other games go live in the Master Chief collection, we should be seeing more of them.

The reason it was changed is because Elites behave drastically differently than they do in Reach, mostly cause of Invasion. Elites are bigger, have Halo 3 movement, and have health regen in Reach.

Well look at that, I stand corrected. I've been fooling myself this whole time. Thanks for pointing it out.

No worries. I was just like, wut? Bungie themselves removed playable Elites outside of certain modes.

343 only did the Title Update and the Anniversary map pack for Reach.

Seeing what 343 did to the visual design of a lot of things. No playable elites in 4 and 5 was likely a good thing

Yeah man those new artstyle Elites are atrocious. I only like the Zealot armor.

I reluctantly have to agree. 343 Industries primary focus was to make things look visually pleasing before fun gameplay. The polar opposite of what Bungie wanted.

As much as I adore playing from the perspective of the Covenant, I'm not sure if 343 Industries would make it as fun and inspiring as I'd want it to be. But then again, it's just my subjective theoretical and uneducated guess

problem with elites is gameplay mostly, also they dont have third person sprint animations, hitboxes are diffrent, not really good when you want to have a balanced game.

i recall halo 2 you couldent even see an elite head if its back was turned to you.
