Is there a way to change difficulty mid-game?
Is there a config or save file somewhere that can be edited to change the difficulty. I'm getting my ass kicked. I usually would be all for get-gud but it's frustrating me how much the enemies feel like bullet sponges and I feel like wet tissue paper.

I don't want to have to start the entire game over.

You can change the difficulty after you finish the mission, or you could reset the mission and start it with another difficulty. Also, I suggest to use plasma weapons against shielded enemies and finish them off with ballistic weapons

Okay awesome. Thanks for the tips!

By shielded enemies do you mean the ones holding the shields up? Or just enemies in general that have the overshield on their bodies?

I meant the latter, bacause I guessed you were talking about them when you said bullet sponges

Gotcha. That makes sense. Truth be told I've only ever played Halo pvp with friends. This is my first time actually going through the campaign (never had an Xbox) so I'm probably not playing properly. Your suggestion to switch energy/kinetic weapons depending on enemies tells me there are actual tactics to this game that you need to learn in order to be good - so that's my bad.

Honestly I don't think I'm going to switch the difficulty. I was just frusterated earlier. I don't like backing away from a challenge. Plus I feel like I should probably learn how to play the game properly rather than just try to breeze through it.

I didn't think heroic would challenge me this much .

Grab a plasma pistol and use the charged hit against shielded enemies, it will remove every shield in 1 hit then you can headshot them, make everything ez

Where in the game are you? My two favorites are the plasma pistol and the sword. The plasma thingy can be found all over the place, the sword -not so much :)

Oh and sticky grenades.

Frankly most of the human weapons are useless later on in the game

I'm on the tip of the spear mission. I'm having a really difficult time with these giant guys as well as the big tanks that fire mortars. I just keep getting blown up by mortars/grenades and my weapons all require medium to close range.

Okay, thanks. I'll definitely be sure to keep my eyes peeled for any plasma pistols I can find.

Aww! I feel your pain :D I almost lost my sanity during that mission. What worked for me was to take out all the small foes first and play hide and seek with the big fellas. The more distance you can put between yourself and those things, the better :)

Hah thanks. Glad to know I'm not the only one who struggled at this part. Okay, I'll keep trying that. It's really hard to find cover that won't cause me to get 1-shot by the big guys/tank lol.

For the big guys (hunters) you can safely keep turning around them to their left, they'll only melee you and miss if you're close enough

Playing the MCC here on PC, I see no way to change the difficulty while in-game. Restarting a particular mission offers no option for it, neither does finishing the mission.

The only way appears to be what the OP didn't want, which is to restart the entire game.

I selected Restart, and I'm unable to change my difficulty. How exactly do you do it?

I'm in the Gravemind mission in Halo 2, and my difficulty is set to Heroic. I'm bombarded with enemies that constantly kill me quickly.
