Man, I actually had a lot of difficulty with the scarab on the Ark. All I had was the scorpion and I couldn't for the life of me move fast enough to not get wrecked by the scarab beam and some guauss hog that I am sure can't even harm it. Took me God knows how many tries and the second time I did the level I did it first try.
In my defense, Scarabs fight really were made with coop in mind. Marines hardly can be relied on with their rocket launcher.
Deployable Covers are your best friend in Cortana for this reason (not the Bubble Shield). AI in Halo 3 can't see you behind them, they have difficulty getting around/over them quickly, so you can knock them down one by one if they try to get through, and best of all, Ranged Pure Forms cannot drain the health of them so they hard counter them. Not even counting how you can pretty much block up the entire corridor/doorway most of the time.
