Shooters like Halo
I don't know what the state of the game is as of posting, but I'm also one of the people who haven't been able to play the game without crashing to desktop or freezing in matchmaking this week.

Any shooters with a healthy playerbase anyone would recommend for someone who loves Halo but hates Battle Royale/Overwatch etc. ?

Pretty much. That, or if they revived the original Halo trilogy on PC earlier. Remember when everyone was sending 343 pizza after the announcement of MCC on PC, and they had to tell us to stop? We'd been hungry for it for years.

Just checked, just like with halo 5 there were like 20 servers, all empty. Installation for new players is possible in a few different ways, but git-hub seems to be the only place where it exists rn. So if you have access to MCC, go on MCC, but if you can't afford it or you want to play or host forge with friends who don't have mcc (or like play locally as well) then this could work, as i feel like this game runs and feels better than H3, with better forge, better customs, server browser with easier hosting and better coustomisation, some new maps, some old from h3 (basically h3 multiplayer/forge originating from (russian?) h3 pc port called halo online. About download, all u need is on git-hub. Also you can try out SPV3, that's custom halo:ce campaign (originally a mod for halo custom edition), or i've seen stuff like halo:ce on halo 3 engine (as mod for MCC) and many more (mods fro MCC, especially for halo reach).

This isnt really what you asked for but if you find it and get it working then Section 8 Prejudice is great. You can play games with reasonably competent bots. However i dont know if anyones still playing multiplayer, its not available on steam anymore, and you have to look up a games for windows live work around.

I found this link where you can still buy it but i dont know anything about this version

This looks intresting. Nova Legacy used to be most simmilar to halo you could get (on mobile tho) back in the day, reminded me of halo reach/h4 a little, but it was taken down years ago.

Oh also Murder Miners (on steam) exist. Basically halo inspired sandbox game, community driven i suppose, with a lot of inspiration from halo titles (an not just from halo, made by comunity as you can create and submit your own). ofc it may look strange because of blocky appearance, or it may have 0 players at times (it had 0 rn, i hosted a lobby and 4 joined :D ) with interesting take on minecraft style forge, like you can host simple zombie survival on any map and have fun, also your toaster would run it at 60fps probably. If we didn't count single-player campaigns and character coustomisation, this game would probably have more cotent than any 2 halo games combined. I mean many old call of duty titles while having waay greater peak player counts and many more downloads, have died and quite fast at that, so halo (mcc and halo infine) maybe aren't in that bad of a spot after all. Might post an update sometime later.

looked up murder miners. huh.

halo at home:

(in all seriousness this may have been something I'd be interested in with a healthy playerbase)

thx for recommends, all.

thankfully mcc seems to be back up. so when 343 fix the whole halo ce taking up 32GB of ram everything will be completely back to normal right?

I've found halo ce campaign/multiplayer and halo 2 classic (multiplayer) to run great even on my potato laptop with integrated graphics and 8gb of ram, so i think they've done a great job already. Fokin love mcc
