Why do I have to sign into Microsoft to play this title?

Is there any way to skip this asinine step? I have tried for over 6 hours to sign into my Microsoft account - I know my password - but it still does some crazy verification crap that doesn't let me in. It made me create a secondary useless backup account at Yahoo for some reason and then never sent the verification code to it so I could actually sign into the game. It's total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Worst DRM I've ever encountered. I have to refund the game simply because it won't let me verify my active and authentic Microsoft account which I know the password to and have the phone which it is associated with and basically use on my Windows computer every day. Most frustrating crap I've every dealt with.

I was about to make a thread about this stupid DRM! Had no idea this was an always online title. Even EA games have an offline function Fk this stupid practice. Even on the modded version I need to sign in like WTF its for mods!! I can care less about multiplayer I just wanna play story smh!!!

Edit: I could sign in and then signed in offline after disconnecting. But I'm not sure if I trust it to stay like that. I'm worried that one day I will try to it play only for it to ask me to log in when I have no internet connection :(

Microsoft can do whatever they want because its their game. If they required you to put on a sombrero and get it on webcam as part of the login process then you'd better do it. (And we all know that you will)

But beyond requiring logging into your Microsoft account just to play the game... have you also noticed that you can't get to any exit screen until you actually have logged in. If you don't have an account you have to Alt-F4 (or worse) to close the game.

Yeah, you just need to sign on once with your Microsoft account. No internet connection required after your first sign in.
