when you launch the game there is an option to enable EAC or not, check that, after idk

Like RuntyFlame said just go to your steam library to launch the game. It should give you an option to launch with easy anti-cheat enabled. Running through the shortcut on the desktop just goes with whatever option is default, in this case it's EAC being set to disabled.

If you aren't selecting the option to play the game with EAC off you can try re-downloading it via the installer that came with the game.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection\installers

What exactly does that anti-cheat thing do? What if I don't enable it when I start? What do I lose? And if I try to play without anti-cheat can I go back to enabling it again the next time I play?

The option to turn it off is to just not launch it when you start the game. If you have Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) off then the game will not track Xbox Live achievements (all the Steam achievements are tied to their Xbox Live equivalents), you will not earn XP, you will not progress towards challenges for season point unlocks, and you cannot play matchmaking or the Custom Game Browser.

However the rest of the game works perfectly with EAC off. This is the Linux experience because EAC doesn't support Linux.

You can still play campaign and you can play it with any other PC players regardless of if they have EAC on or off. The same is true for custom games, forge, firefight, and Spartan Ops. You can even still play with Xbox players! You can use mods that switch one map for another (which requires anyone playing with you to have the same mod) and if you're the host of a custom game then you can poke some changes with assembly to make everyone do something like shoot rocket launcher shots out of ARs!

It's also possible to unlock all the armor and vehicle skins, but keep in mind that none of this sticks if you want to play a game with EAC on. If you use a mod you have to remove it before EAC will let you play normally again. Thankfully this is easier on Steam because you can verify game files after removing a file to re-download only the missing files.

The "mods" you see in the Custom Game Browser use the same gametype scripting system that was present when the original games released on Xbox 360. Reach came with a cut down version of LUA called Megalo that Bungie and 343i have used to add gametypes after the release of the game. Halo 3 hard-coded them and couldn't add more except with a title update, so Bungie came up with this to fix it. It's what Bungie made chess with and recently someone even made pictionary with it.

Hope this helps.

I think I figured it out, if you exit the game and go to the manage icon on the right that looks like a gear and then click properties from the drop down, and launch options is on the first page. And it lets you choose to automatically startup with either...

1) Set it to let you choose on startup
2) Set it to startup non cheat Halo
3) Set it to startup Dirty Cheaty Halo

Hope this helped

the only two options are:
Play Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Play Halo: MCC Anti-Cheat Disabled (Mods and Limited Services)

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
