Halo 2 FPS drops/stutters
In certain scenes the FPS drops so much it becomes stutters, I already posted about this in the "self-help" category but I want to get help faster or just confirmation that this is a known issue. I have only really tested in remastered graphics. Is there any way to fix this or is this just a pure software issue? Halo CE with remastered graphics was buttery smooth. Thanks.

I had the same experience. I guess alot of people tend to have this problem. No matter how high tier your rig is.

Halo 2 has poor optimization in campaign and in multiplayer, mostly campaign. I have a 1400$ rig and my frame rate tanks, or it stutters...

Its kinda funny how both Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo 2 Anniversary MP both have visual lag issues when they are separate engines, remember H2A MP is actually Halo 4.

Also pretty sad when we consider that the MCC started as Halo 2 Anniversary then the other games were added, then 4, and later ODST and Reach, yet H2A still runs like ♥♥♥♥. The game the series was built around is broken, the game I bought this series for is still broken. /smh

At least Halo Infinite will not have this problem of juggling too many optimized engines.

Guess I've been the lucky one. I experience no stutter or lag in any of the Halo games.

halo 2 is the only laggy halo game

I only experience stutters in Halo 2A first half of Delta Halo mission and every checpoint saves. MP is flawless for me.

Halo 2 Anniversary has kind of been broken in this way since December 2019 on Xbox One/One X (the game runs so badly it's not playable, constantly dropping below 20fps), and it's been broken since launch on PC (to varying levels, though there seem to be framerate drops for nearly everyone in campaign), and also has framerate issues on Series S/X even after their optimization update in H2A campaign.

I'd say some kind of optimization was broken when Halo: Reach was added to MCC, I do hope it is resolved sometime in the future, but so far it's not even a known issue in Halo Waypoint support

I saw it being talked about on Halo Waypoint recently on the support forums, but yeah it's strange how it isn't even a known issue for 343.

I've seen some momentary stutters on occasion, but nothing that persists for more than a moment on my old Sandy Bridge i7 rig with a 1060. I'm fairly far in the campaign as well.

It's just annoying seeing as the other games don't have this issue.

Digital foundry made a good review about the MCC Halo 2. At the end of the video he talks about the stuttering and fps drops. Apparently this is not a hardware issue but probably the game engine beeing poorly optimized for the pc.

We can only hope that the developers will fix this in a future update. Keep in mind that this is issue has existed since release... So my expectations are low.

Yeah I've seen people talking about this for a long time, classic works okay but I really wanna do a playthrough with the anniversary graphics. Let's hope it gets fixed but yeah I'm not holding my breath honestly.

Okay. I think I found a workaround for this. You MUST have an Nvidia GPU and to play with it locked at 60fps/Vsync. If you're fine with that, these are the steps:

Right click on desktop > Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Add Halo: The Master Chief Collection > Scroll down to Vsync and select "Adaptive." > Apply then exit.

Played through Outskirts again which was dipping into the teens. Now it only dips to 59. Hopefully this helps any of you out.
