HDR for PC May Never be Coming
Hate to be the bearer of bad news.

I got fed up waiting a year and a half for one of the features advertised to be released at launch with Reach and went looking into why HDR has not been implemented yet.

From vague words from unknown developers saying it was difficult to implement; paraphrasing as I don't have the actual quote.

Continued to watch the monthly MCC Dev Blog from Postums throughout 2020, which still had HDR on the list. Then since the last Dev Blog from December there has been zero word on HDR; I had been reading the Friday Dev updates since then and it had never been brought up again.

Finally I issued a support ticket to find out once and for all and got a disappointing response. Response as follows:

"Hello Iced Glory,

I appreciate the curiousity about the HDR feature on Windows/PC. Currently, HDR is not available for the PC versions of the game. It was a feature that was initially targeted an functionally did not meet the quality bar the wanted. It is being reviewed to potentially add to the PC versions, and there is no commitment at this time. but hey we hear you and we thank you for your letting us know about this. Last year, over 640 bugs submitted by the Halo Community were fixed by our developers in Halo: The Master Chief Collection alone. They made over 40,000 codebase revisions while completing features."

Rest of the ticket is just them telling me useless things such as, to make a forum post, join the flights, and look for help elsewhere.

I apologise to the others who were looking forward to this feature as much as I was, I have seen your posts. I have very little hope for this feature as I've heard development will come to a near halt once Season 10 drops, and with the little progress we've seen from Halo 4 till now, I don't see it being implemented.

On a last separate note, I don't see Windows 10 Auto HDR as a substitute for half a year of silence and almost zero development on this.

I very much keep to my self and have never made a post, but this needed to be posted about.

Damn, thanks for the info. Was waiting for hdr to jump on this as "it will be implemented in future" wasn't enough for me, at least now I can just forget about it altogether :dustpan:
There's Auto HDR feature in Windows 11 which is compatible with DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 titles.

I'll have to check it out once it's released. Mcc may have a chance if it works well.

If it works like on the Series X, it will be very nice. Obviously manual HDR is going to be the best, but auto HDR is VERY close, only downside is sometimes it can make menus look odd

Was HDR ever natively implemented into the PC version of MCC?

No, and now it seems like they'll shut down all development going forward with the game. Very sad state of affairs.

I think HDR is a very important feature and people will realise as more time passes how important it is. Without an official patch I don't see how it can be implemented properly.

Very weird response. Your comment would indicate you have seen this game in hdr. Are you using an xbox to see it? Other than fake hdr (auto hdr) there is no other way to see it.

Also if it was blindingly bright, you could just turn it off.

Not the brightest comment I've read. (Doesn't like feature there for no one should have it.)

My niece doesn't like guns, developers should take them out so we don't offend her. People are incomprehensible these days.

If auto hdr is causing color balance issues I recommend, turning it off and just using sdr. I agree that auto hdr could make the picture look bad for some people, I don't totally like it either.

Yup series X version has HDR AND the HDR options in the actual games options.

Guess what else it has? Halo 2 campaign 5.1 sound!
IVE BOUGHT THIS GAME TWICE NOW 343! WHERE'S THE FKN PARITY!?!

WE KNOW WIN 10 DOES HDR!
WE KNOW HALO 2 HAD 5.1 ON THE ORIGINAL FKN XBOX!
WE ALSO KNOW THE PC VERSION IS MISSING THESE TWO THINGS!

WTF?!?
Got my pc hooked up to the HDR 10 VRR OLED - in fact, I have a dedicated TV PC. Sure, I am part of a minority, but still it will become more important over the next couple of years as affordable Monitors are already being sold.

Missing HDR support is quite honestly really sad, especially when it is already implemented and we are talking about a Company that does develop the OS and the Game (yes I know 343 does not do Windows, still).

I can recommended the Doom reboot series if you want your Controller + HDR fix on PC and it is similar enough for you.
