Can't play without giving Microsoft my phone number

Hi, I legally bought the game primarely for the 2001 classic campaign. I'm already inside the crashed Pillar Of Autumn but I can no longer log in once the game is started.
Microsoft says that my phone number is required but I don't own a phone.

Is there any way to disable the online mode so I can play the singleplayer campaign without providing a phone number / account for microsoft?

If you're needing to give EA your phone number for a Halo title, the best advice I can give is to not buy games from the guy who's calling about your vehicle's warranty (which may be about to expire).

Halo MCC requires a Microsoft Account. I created a new account and only used it for Halo. When logging in again Microsoft is requesting a phone number as can be seen by the screenshots I uploaded.
The windows license is also genuine.

Two factor authentication has been a thing for most major platforms for a hot minute now, but I have *never* been asked for a phone number by MS.

The fact that folks who probably use SteamGuard Authenticator are probably the same folks upset about this, though, is kinda funny.

I made my Xbox Live account around January of last year. The OP was able to play for a few days before being locked out. I think something else is going on.

Yeah I was able to play but now about four hours into the campaign microsoft locked me out and it's annoying
