Well when the game doesn't cash or DC
Also don't know about alternative endings though, I admit I wasn't even aware that was a thing.
I played with one friend over a few sessions who was hosting and we were able to find his audio logs no problem. Progress saved with no issues. But recently I started playing with another friend who was also hosting and each time he starts the game up for us to play coop, his audio logs reset. We've made sure to have him properly end the game and check his progress in single player right after and they still reset.
Pretty annoying overall.

From my understanding even if the host has collected all the audio logs it still won't play the alternate ending in co-op. I'm pretty sure it's saved separately. I have no idea what the legacy behavior is.
