Why is ODST so praised?
People were complaining about 2A's fancy graphics spoiling the comfort of playing the game but ODST does one better. Here, it's not just inside shadows and behind rocks anymore; you can't see a ♥♥♥♥ anywhere in the map.
I have to turn on nightvision everywhere or else I keep bumping into walls. And having nightvision all the time makes everything look bad. Clearer, but ugly; which makes me wonder why they made such fancy looking graphics in the first place. It's not like they had to blind the players because the levels happen in the night. No other game does it this badly.

Then everybody said Library was a horrible level because of repetitiveness but why is no one bothered about ODST? The first three levels were totally the same. You stumble around in the dark, the roads and buildings all look the same(heck maybe they are same, I think you're supposed to be walking circles in the same town). What was that about part of Two Betrayals being copied from Library? ODST has all 3 levels from the start looking the exact same.

Throwing a grenade is unnecessarily complicated. Why do they fly in such an unnatural arc far above where you throw them? It feels janky.

I came to this after rushing through halo 3 but this is disappointing. The music and characters aside, there doesn't seem to be any retaining quality in this game.

Admittedly there's a lot that I don't like about ODST but they got the most important bit down which was the campaign gameplay, so it's still in my good books.
I found myself caring very little for the story, the characters or even their take on a wave survival mode.

The darkness probably would have bothered me more if they didn't give us such an overly helpful tool to see beyond it.

Just what came first to me as well. They look terrible. Like some mobile game characters.

ODST is the worst halo. :lunar2020ratinablanket:

I feel like people only liked ODST because of the novelty of playing as an ODST.

"What would you do to fight the onslaught of the Covenant, if a Spartan wasn't around to save you?"

That was a concept that was never used until ODST came out.
People liked that, I guess.

Even in daytime levels it doesn't look as great because there is a constant noise filter activated like in a horror game. However the reason a lot of people like ODST is because it's something different. If you don't like it there are 6 other Halo's to play that all play the same.
Well people like arma 3 for example I still like arma 2 better sure it's an older game but it has it's way of making you think about the situation adapt to it. In arma 3 the best actual tactic is run and gun unless you plan on sniping from long distances or using armor to roll on through tough chokepoints. Halo 3 odst was a dlc supposed to be 4 hours of game play then it branched into it's own game set between halo 2 and leading to halo 3. Your a human not a spartan they address this by the way you are combat wise such as throwing explosives. As for this level is reused yep that is due to the limitations of the xbox 360 days halo 3 has the storm and floodgate both are the same level just in different directions so if you hate odst for level design being repeated well the issue has been present before and after odst. As for night vision honestly I can play with and without the visor being on but I also play with gamma a bit higher than normal and I can see in darker enviornments better than I can see in light due to an eye condition I have. I think you might want to understand that this game came out before you started gaming you probably like the way games are now days odst doesn't follow what goes on now days. Is halo 3 odst a bad game no for example it runs and it's pretty hard to break the game apart from two areas due to a difficulty with the ai. Halo 4 could be broken just by a number of ways for example hitting an elite near a wall if done correctly could launch you through the wall. Is halo 3 odst the best game of the series no far from it, but that wasn't the intent of the game it wasn't meant to be an epic stand alone game changer and there are clear examples of that. I personally like halo ce and halo 2 the most for story. I have played reach for years I gave halo 4 a chance and honestly I felt cheated I saw what halo 4 could of been. But the bugs the art style the way the story goes it's kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the fans of the series and saying suck it up this is our game now. And the multiplayer of halo 4 feels like I'm playing some call of duty hybrid which if I wanted to play call of duty I would play call of duty not halo. So as a fan I disagree with your point of view. As someone who has spent some time working on games I find your point of view questionable. I think halo 3 odst is just a game you wont really enjoy and that's not really a bad thing as I don't enjoy rpg games like blue dragon for example doesn't mean the game is bad. If you really want to give odst a chance play with someone who has spent a lot of time in the series for example odst's are augmented they are stronger than your basic marine but they aren't as augmented as a spartan in the lore odst's hate spartans they see spartans as military hardware they don't see them as humans least back in the spartan gen 2 days.

but having to turn on an optional nightvision all the time is weird. Even MGS5 isn't so bad. And that game has really dark nights

So, I guess you haven't really played the ODST, right? You need a nightvision during the nighttime (majority of the play as the Rookie). However, during the day fights you cannot even use nightvision as it gets too bright.

I haven't played PC version yet. But I remember ODST started slow, kinda dull, but then got better and better until it was one of the best single player Halo experiences.
Why is it that People need to Question everytime a particular Game is somewhat popular and flamebait about it, instead of mere accepting that there are People which loves said Game?

If it would be a genuine Question like "What's the thing you like about ODST", but majority of this Topics are simply a childish immature topic which try to trashtalk Games where People are butthurt why it's so praised. And it's really sad to see that the Halo Community keeps lowering the bar in that regard, so much that i quite often don't wanna count myself as part of it anymore. And so i don't leave the topic without a genuine Answer:

I love ODST because it gives you a different Perspective and Playstyle outside of the demigodlike Spartans to a more relatable Humans. Kinda a special force of the military without wenting through the huge powerup which Spartans had. The overall Combat is !!!for a Halo Game!!! more grounded and tactic, and a bit more slowpaced. Not to mention the dark Atmosphere. It also introduced with Firefight one of my absolute favorite Gamemodes in the whole Series. For me Halo is like Star Wars a Universe which is rich in terms of possibilities that's why i'm happy to get spin-offs like this or Halo Wars. Thanks for reading.

Discussion of a game isn't a bad thing, nor is reading points that you may disagree with. I share the opinion that ODST is overrated. It's a decent Halo game, but not the best at all.

I see this point raised a lot and, in my opinion, it's complete nonsense. Everything a Spartan does, the ODST can do as well, with the exception of dual wield. They have a "shield" system, renamed as stamina. They can run and jump just like a Spartan. They are masters with any weapon they pick up and fire. They can drive any vehicle. They can also, hilariously, climb onto enemy vehicles and pummel them with their fists like Spartans do.
The game is fun in places and has some awesome set pieces and fight sequences, but overall I'd rate it down towards the bottom of the list.

Honestly, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with the settings on firefight, you can make ODST feel way closer to what it should have been.

Damage resist 90%
Speed 75%
Gravity 200%

Just those changes alone make a world of difference lol and the game should have shipped like that. There's no reason a normal-ass ODST should be able to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ jump seven feet on top of a crate, or jump from a rooftop without fracturing something, needing a medpack. It makes you realllllly second guess running up and punching brutes because yeah, you can kill one, but you can't outrun all his packmates anymore.

Can't wait for a mod that rebalances the campaign to be more... fitting. Gonna be awesome
