Who was Linda in CE?

First I saw the name on the display above the room with master chief's cryo chamber. It looked like she was dead. Back then I assumed that she had died because the elites got to her before coming for master chief. Cortana does say, "They intended to catch you sleeping."
Then I read on the internet that she did not die. Then why did the display say her vitals were gone or something like that? I mean, chief got out of the chamber but HIS info still shows up there. If she isn't dead, does she show up in the games?
I haven't read any book. And no further spoilers. I only got to finish till 2 so far.

Linda is another Spartan, from the same team as the Chief. Linda died shortly before Halo 1, when they were escaping from Reach. MC took her body and froze her. The Pod was jettisoned before the crashland, and she was recovered and then surgically revived due to OP organ cloning.
