Single Player - Constantly out of ammo?
This is the first time I'm playing a Halo game. Is it normal to run out of ammo all the time or am I doing something wrong?

I'm barely halfway through a level and the rest I have to spend more time running around trying to find weapons to swap to than shooting.

It's feels very different from Quake and Unreal series.

Swapping/discarding weapons, sometimes on a minute-to-minute basis has always been a common mechanic in Halo games, either from weapon racks or enemies (or even allies! You can swap your weapons with them when you stand in front of them, just make sure you have at least one bullet left). It is encouraged since certain weapons work better on certain enemies. You should definitely incorporated into your gameplay, rather than relying on a single weapon or constantly trying to find ammo for it.

Weapons should be strewn about absolutely everywhere, you gotta learn to make do with stuff other than the DMR and Needle rifle

You make do with what you have and can find, yes. Every enemy will drop a weapon and you can swap weapons with allies.

Thanks, I'll try to change my play style.

Not that I know of without mods, but if you play on easy, you'll barely ever run out of ammo. There is more available, less enemies and they die faster.

Kinda sorta not really. Play on easy. You'll use way less ammo. Also pick up a needle rifle asap as they'll be scattered everywhere and you basically won't have to worry about finding guns anymore.

I’m pretty sure there’s a skull that gives you bottomless clip and another that makes weapons dropped by enemies have more ammo. I haven’t really played the story on this version of Reach so I don’t know if you have to find the skulls to activate them

Those would be some weird skulls, seeing as how they're supposed to make the game more difficult. I haven't heard of bottomless clip.. and the ammo skull makes it so weapons have half the ammo actually, quite the opposite :P
