Halo 3 on the other hand is what I'd call a beautiful game. It doesn't hold a candle to some games today in terms of facial animation and character models. Even some of the textures work while still relatively impressive (especially for the time) is not as good as what we get in other games today
But the art style is just so incredible. Bungie really knew how to work with what they had. Going from Halo 2 graphics to Halo 3 graphics is a perfect example of a generational leap in graphics. I was blown away when Halo 3 first came out I thought it looked gorgeous and the amazing thing is that I still think it holds up against modern games today.
There's just this incredibly beautiful shine to everything in the game that makes it look so beautiful and I think it sort of hides some of the shortcomings that would otherwise be more noticeable. Again, its not character models that look incredible but I find the environments are just so incredible to look at. The sierra 117 level is actually a perfect example of what I'm talking about .
And this is exactly what I find 343 couldn't do with Halo 4. When I look at Halo 4 now I find it looks incredibly dated and amateurish. Even at the time it was released I saw it as a gigantic step back from Halo 3 and Reach.
The covenant ships all look really cheap and cartoony in the sky instead of all vibrant, slick and shiny. The explosions and the plasma effects look like garbage. Character models are impressive but everything sucks.
I mean stating my own opinion isn't a question. I mostly just pointed out that new fans tend to not find as much wrong in 4 & 5 as old fans do. I had played CE and II on original Xbox but never got around to Xbox 360 so this new port has been my chance to see the series all the way through. Mostly I have found every sequential game to be an upgrade or at least on par with the past game. 4 is by no means a bad game and the art style I find isn't ugly. I just got annoyed that it's become a forgone conclusion that halo 4 & 5 are terrible games and we need to keep bringing up how bad they are every single chance we get. I felt it was only fair to give a counter opinion or at the very least a defusing statement so people who may like this game more or less than I do don't have to stare at an eyesore of a thread that's purely people stroking their superior opinion where everyone can see it. I didn't say its an objectively great game or that it's the best looking game in the series. I stated my opinion in an opinionated way.
Yes, I did write this out. No I'm not really angry at your reply, nor am I a Halo 4 & 5 fanboy. I'm just really tired...online classes kept me up late tonight. I don't want to go to sleep so I thought I'd be fun to write a counter opinion in the first halo 4 hate thread I could find and then I thought it would be fun to analyse and explain how my non-opinion isn't something to get worked up about...and I am still typing.
On a side note:
You're attempt to devalue my stance even though I had formatted my stance in the least argumentative way possible I find extremely funny.
I'm not complaining just because "its not bungie"
There are serious graphical issues with H4. Look at any texture in the game they're downright terrible. Ugly enemy redesigns.
The only thing in 4 that arguably looks better than 3are the.weapon textures (although now they're more cartoony looking) and character models.
Environments look far prettier in Halo 3 and had superior texture work.
Are new people not allowed to discuss similar topics that other people have discussed in years prior?
Is someone putting a gun to your head forcing you to take part in this discussion ? Lol
So you're upset about "opinions".
Maybe discussion boards aren't for you lol
Nobody is forcing you to believe that. Its literally impossible for someone to force you
Ok... so you're upset that I'm sharing opinions on a discussion board where sharing opinions is supposed to be a normal thing ?
You do realize you can just ignore my opinions if they bother you that much, ya?
You're choosing to get triggered by other people's opinions just because you don't agree with them. Lol.
I may not agree with those who love Halo 4 but I dont go and get triggered by the fact that they like the game. Everyone is entitled to feel how they feel about a game... negative or positive either way... it doesn't matter.
Snowflakes from today think that everything has to be a safe space where only positive circle jerk opinions should be tolerated.
If it wasn't for critical people that give negative feedback, developers may not understand the areas that they need to improve upon.
343 may not have gone with a soft reboot and changed directions for the better with halo infinite had people not complained so much about Halo 5.
Negative feedback is a good thing. So put a smile on and stop crying because a negative opinion you don't agree with hurt your feelings.
Time to put your big boy pants on.
