Halo 2: Sword, Sword, Sword. head shots are also the same as on CE
Oracle - you can grab a sword off the Spec Ops Leader before the elevator down to the flood room. In the flood room you can also grab an energy sword off of flood combat forms (for some reason the flood combat forms don't actually do much with the sword so they are not that bad of a threat). When the Heretic Leader locks himself inside you can, once again, grab an energy sword off of the Spec Ops Leader. IIRC, there is also another spare sword in the section where you cut the cables. Afterwards, all flood fights are optional as you can just cloak and run past.
Sacred Icon - this one is understandable because the energy swords dont start appearing until you are almost at the outside section with the allied elites. even so, you have access to abundant sentinel beams and also shotguns which will tide you over until you find a sword.
Quarantine Zone - most of the map is a vehicle section, and you have elite allies to help you fightt off the flood. not really an issue - and if you picked up a sword in Sacred Icon, it carries over. Not to mention there are many opportunities to find swords throughout the level.
Also if you don't want the Flood to get back up again, you can destroy the bodies in Halo 2 (and 3) to prevent that from happening (one swipe of a sword takes care of that pretty well).
Fighting the flood is fun because level's aren't constricting you to specific strategies. It feels expansive and fun.
Without the Flood the story wouldn't be half as good as it turned out to be and from a game play perspective it makes it that more interesting because you can't use your usual tactics on the Flood anywhere near as well as you can the Covenant. Helps keep it fresh.
This is true for all sorts of reasons in CE. No shields and dumb movement make any weapon viable as long as you have the ammo. They always seem to go for the much more threatening Covenant instead of you in a three way fight, allowing for free shots.
The few that have snipers and rockets are quite easy to pick out from a crowd and there's rarely a reason why it ever has to be more complicated than taking them out the instant you see them.
In addition to most weapons having improved purpose you also get the shotgun at a similar time to when they appear which can also one shot combat forms from an unexpectedly safe range. You can quite easily get three for two if you manage the spread properly too.
They are much more of a threat on Halo 2s legendary difficulty (but what isn't). They move faster, take more damage across the board, reanimate corpses, use vehicles, have shields (if they are elites), have a greater number that are using weapons etc.
However they still make the game easier through the simple virtue that they don't throw anywhere near as much BS at you compared to the Covenant. They still aren't as trigger-happy (and can still be dismembered), they don't dodge, they barely (or never?) snipe, they don't float above your head. You can even survive a melee from human combat forms under optimal conditions.
The Covenant have plenty of enemies who will merc you for leaving your cover faster than you say "impatience". But when it comes to the Flood overwhelming you, you have a much more realistic chance of running right past without a plan.
I have found that the sniper rifle is useless against the flood. The head - useless. The body, not 100% sure as I always aim for the head, but no doubt I have hit the body before.
Bottom line: Is the sniper rifle useless against flood? Am I doing something wrong?
Am I an idiot?
All true, but what about the sniper rifle. Doesn't work against flood for me.
==========================================================
Yeah, it's not practical, even if it works I guess. Just wondering if it does work at all. No big deal, I would rarely use it against flood anyhow. Shotty is good and satisfying.
Just curious if others found the same. I did try it quite a few times, sometimes 4 shots on a distant Flood beast, but it's as if nothing at all happened. I guess I could have missed, but I tried other times too. I'm not bad, not good with sniper rifle. All together through H1 ah H2 I tried the sniper at least 25 shots before giving up. As you said not much use for the flood anyhow.
I guess I just missed all 25 shots. One was closeup as I didn't switch weapons. Nothing - guess I missed that too. Considering the flood was covering most of the screen it's pretty skillful to miss.
I'll look at it like that.
"As you said not much use for the flood anyhow." This sentence is directed to the deleted post, not WDavix4692. I said that, because he didn't say that. Mr. Deleted post said that lol.
