No subtitles in Halo 2
Subtitles are only in cutscenes but not in-game/radio
It's very disappointing, as i've read that Halo CE and Halo 4 are the only that has in-game subtitles.
When MC came out on PC, they had no chance to add subtitles ?
This is really bad :/

They absolutely can and should make subtitles for every line. Hades came out this year, with 300,000 fully-subtitled words of voice lines. If an indie developer can do it, a Microsoft-owned company certainly can. If it can be heard, it should be captioned.

But yeah, if you can't hear these games, they're about half as playable, sorry OP. There's a lot of un-subbed dialogue in campaign, a lot of off-screen noises you're supposed to be able to locate by sound alone, and even the announcer in multiplayer has important lines without any subtitles. No non-verbal communication with teammates that doesn't interrupt gameplay, either.

You can still play without hearing, but you'll miss a lot of important things that will effect gameplay and your story experience. Until they put in some work, I can't really recommend these games to anyone who's Deaf, HoH, has trouble processing speech, or just wants to play with sound off. Sorry.

300000 words which is 21k voice lines

As an Indian guy whose native language is not English I easily understood most of the dialogues in the game without subs
Although I agree that subs are needed in h2a like CE anniversary
But calling it unplayable is a bit far fetched.

So that's actually more lines than Halo 2 and they're all subbed. That game is fully enjoyable if you're Deaf, which is exactly my point.
I didn't call it unplayable, but audio is necessary to enjoy the game fully. If you can't hear the game, the game is less playable. Why don't you try turning the sound off for a few play sessions and see if you can compete with players who can hear the game?
It's nice that you can hear and understand most of the lines, and hear where shots are coming from, but many people can't understand them all the time, and some players are Deaf or HoH and can't hear any of it to begin with.

yo skyrim had 60k lines and they mass produced that game all the time and they dont miss out on subs, deaf/people with hearing problems should be compensated!

I came here precisaly looking for this. I wasn't sure whether the subtitles weren't working for me or they plainly didn't exist.

Let's be honest, there are A LOT of dialogs that occur while shooting or with explosions off screen. My native language is not english but I've been basically speaking english for a decade fluently with coworkers and clients from big companies on technical matters, so my English proficiency is not too shabby and I still have trouble completely understanding in-game dialogs during fights (It might also have to do with the speakers I'm using, who knows). I could also just switch the game to Spanish, maybe the dub sounds better through all the noise, but I simply like games, movies and series in their original language.

The point is: A game like this should have subtitles for all dialogs. They did it with Halo: Combat Evolved, so why can't they do it with Halo 2?

By the way, 12.000 lines is nothing. When I was in college I would translate books 60.000 words books in my free time in a month just in my free time, dedicading maybe 2-3hrs a day, while also translating some comics weekly.

I agree, it is very unfortunate, lots of lines you can miss in the action. Same with Reach.

Reach is a weird case where they not only didn't include subtitles for all lines, but there's also a couple lines at the end of New Alexandria that have subtitles for lines that don't actually exist, making that game's subtitles feel especially untrustworthy.

I'm also upset, I was waiting so long for this in-game subtitles update to play H2 with subtitles, and then buh... Nothing.

Are you playing in English? I'm in another language and there are no in-game subtitles.
