Thats the issue.
Halo 3 didnt have any dual wield dude. Thats solely a speciality with Halo 2 (cant tell whether games after Halo 4 had it, but Halo 3 certainly didnt).
The issue is bound to Dual Wielding alone. Using Mousewheel for weaponswitch works fine when not using dual wield.
Since however Dual Wield is THE speciality of Halo 2, it is quite shameful it doesnt register the input.
I assume the game cant deal with complex control input.
Melee is a workaround, no fix.
This means i have to first waste a melee attack animation (which is roughly a second) and only then can switch weapons.
Thats gamebreaking in terms of Halo because the time of a wasted melee attack can mean the difference between failure and success in the series.
Sorry for late reply. Here's how you do it;
https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036218972-How-to-Submit-a-Ticket
This isn't a glitch it's always been in Halo 2 and 3.
If you submit a ticket that might fix this oversight in Halo and add it as a new mechanic maybe.
But i'm not sure 343i would do that since it was in the originals.
There are three ways to drop a weapon in Dual Mode:
1.) Throw a grenade (drops the gun and throws a grenade).
2.) Perform melee attack, drops the gun and performs a melee attack.
3.) You switch weapon by pressing the switch weapon button, you drop the weapon and switch to your secondary weapon.
Option 3 does NOT work when the button to switch the weapon is assigned to mousewheel.
In short, this IS a bug because the input does NOT work anyway once you assigned a button to the "switch weapon" command that the game cant handle.
I recommend to understand the problem first.
Why is it clear that it is a bug related to Halo 2?
Halo 2 is the only game in the series to feature dual wielding. "Change weapon" when assigned to the mousewheel works fine, except in Halo 2.
It works in Reach and in Halo 1. It also works in Halo 2 as long as you dont pick up a second weapon.
If you do, it stops working.
= bug.
If you change the button of weapon switch, lets say to "Q", it works. It only stops working once you assign a mouse button to perform the "switch weapon" action.
Which is why i ask them to fix this error, because no matter what button i assign there, it HAS TO WORK.
And if i decide to set "switch weapon" to be performed by the "Mute" Button on my keyboard, then the game should simply perform the action when i press the assigned button. But it doesnt. Somehow mousewheel is not reigstered as an input command when you are carrying two weapons, but it is when you dont.
= bug
A bug is something that prevents that something works as intended. Its intended that when i use the button assigned to "switch weapons", the character switches the weapons.
In case of dual wielding, its supposed to drop the second one and switch the weapon.
It doesnt = bug, because it is not working as intended.
Clear?
Besides: The issue i describe is commonly a problem for games that are ported from consoles. Somehow a mousewheel is a bit alien to consoles and causes issues. Mostly old games or console games of the past 6 years can have problems with mousewheels or mousebuttons besides Mouse 1 and 2. Many even have issues with mouse 3 (pressing the wheel).
Cant tell why developers still havent reached the understanding of how a mouse works and that it features a mousewheel.
However, i expected this from indiegames with a limited budget and "developer skill", but not a team like this for a game related to a PC Company giant.
I think software like Halo should understand how a mousewheel works, though.
Halo 3 does have dual wield. That's the mandela effect bro.
The Mauler (brute shotgun) was specifically designed to be dual wieldable, and the spiker.
Again, a game not being able to comprehend that mousewheels exist in 2020 is ...well.
The control settings in this collection started to be not well done when Reach released and continues to become even more restricted and outdated with every Halo following.
You're not wrong but, in Halo you can only carry two weapons (well, switch between anyway) at a time. I agree they should try and have better keybinds, but is it so hard to just have a keystroke be the bind? At least until they hopefully make it more versatile? I just run Q as my weapons and 1 as my grenades.
