There's a notable thing to do with certain kinds of headsets and this game, because after clicking past the title screen, the game interacts with windows for "communications device" settings. Mainly bluetooth.
The main menu is a lobby that can be invited to when online, so it readies a VOIP room too. Sometimes this causes issues if the headset doesn't like being in this "call mode", and they prioritise the empty voice room instead of the game audio.
I thought this might be happening in some way to you, as the bit where discord gets cut off for you sounded like something messing up in the windows comms settings.
In which case i'd have linked this KB article[support.halowaypoint.com]
Failing that, submit a ticket on that website (link should be below the article).
There's a fix on the way for the sound engine used in Reach and CEA (and also used in 3 and ODST but we don't have those yet) but afaik the issues don't have anything to do with the sound in the menus, so maybe you've got something more specific.
as this audio is glitching, it then also cuts my mic out from Discord, so it is a combination of the backround audio goign glitchy/laggy, and my mic cutting out

and download the audio drivers for it
and do a bios update
so both deaf and blind
tell me Reach's audio isn't broken?
surprisingly most people don't know this but if you just turn on and off the cloak your audio goes back to normal
otherwise the rest of the audio is fine
It's not. It absolutely needs to be fixed, but it's worse for some than others. I personally only hear muffled shots and only once or twice did I hear it go bonkers with horrid audio. I've played 300 hours, so in my experience it is not even remotely close to broken.
But YES, it does need to be fixed because everyone should have the same audio experience. Which is why 343 hired the original team to fix it.
