Sounds like you haven't played Cortana on legendary enough.

Only once, but in my defense, I think that mission is annoying on any difficulty lol

I like the Flood, but "fun" is the wrong word to use, they were engaging and worked well as a balance against the Covenant, but they are not "fun" in a traditional sense because they weren't going for that, the Covenant were going for fun, you smile when you see an Elite and look forward to doing a dance of death with them, Flood enemies creep you out and are unrelenting "flood" by design.
... I had fun fighting the Flood. It felt more like fighting enemies in Doom. Constantly on the move shooting enemies with the awesome Halo CE shotgun was actually pretty fun. Kinda annoying when Bungie would infinately spawn Flood around you, especially on Keyes.

Unpopular opinion here probably, but I really liked fighting the Flood in Halo 3. I even enjoyed Cortana from a gameplay standpoint. The only part about that level that annoyed me was the constant interuptions from Cortana and the Gravemind. Also Flood Ranged Forms. Those can kiss my ass.

Otherwise, I think Halo Ce had the best incarnation of the Flood. Yes, even the Library was enjoyable to me, albeit repetitive.

Halo 3 flood was kinda weak compared to 1 and 2 but despite that, they were still enjoyable, esp the mission Floodgate.
Flood Ranged forms are the worst part about flood in halo 3 in general

let's also not forget the quarantine zone mission in halo 2 with flood and sentinels duking it out while reclaimer was playing

I'm actually pretty sure that 343 will bring back the Flood in Halo Infinite. And before anyone tries to say "No, they were destroyed in Halo 3". I'll have you know that the lore for the Flood is nowhere near complete. We still have The Primordial to deal with, and he's a bonafide Gravemind.

In the words of the Gravemind
"Resignation is my virtue; like water I ebb, and flow. Defeat is simply the addition of time to a sentence I never deserved... but you imposed."
AKA Flood never die

I honestly didn’t like Quarantine Zone all that much. The gondola segment pretty much soured my enjoyment of that level. The Flood in Halo 2 in general were kinda annoying. It didn’t help that it constantly put you in rooms that you had to fight them in until the game arbitrarily opened the door.

The Halo 3 Flood being weak was fine imo. They may have been incredibly weak to melee attacks, but the sheer numbers of them coupled with the Pure Forms (aside from the Ranged Forms) definitely made up for it.

The gondola segment def sucked, though I always do the glitch where you can get ontop of it and basically not have to fight any enemies at all.

When you put it that way, then it def does make sense for them to be weak to melee attacks.

Even as someone that is kinda jaded they kept High Charity and the Flood on the Ark intact, I knew they could still bring back the Flood since there’s Flood research facilities on practically every Forerunner installation you visit, especially on the Halo rings, which we’re going to be on in Infinite presumably.

If you haven't already, I would highly suggest reading about the lore regarding the Flood. The Flood is actually the Precursor race, who went to war with the Forerunners. The Forerunners won the war, but the Precursors became the Flood in order to eventually defeat them...and I think we can say that they were entirely successful, considering the Forerunner needed to activate the Halo rings. If you read through the lore, you can see that the fight with the Flood/Precursors is nowhere near finished.

See, I usually like to play the levels as legit as possible (though I like jumping on rooftops in Outskirts because lol), so glitching out encounters like that isn’t something I usually do. Which means I usually end up doing the gondola segment no matter what, and it’s easily my least favorite segment of Halo 2, aside from the beginning of Gravemind when you get swarmed by Brutes and Grunts with nothing but a Needler.

I already know about the Flood lore. Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of the Flood being these ancient godlike alien species. I prefered when they were this anomalous parasitic threat of potentially extragalactic origin. The mystery of the Flood made them all the more terrifying then them being the remnants of what is essentially the Halo version of gods.

Makes sense honestly.
And I do the same with outskirts too lol
