All you need is the CD key since Halo Custom Edition is only available as an online download anyway. The latest patch 1.0.10 replace the Game Spy master server with a Bungie Employee's master server so online can be played without problems.
HaloCE3 website has all the files/installer you need here[HaloCE3.com]
Halomaps website has map files though none newer than March 2016[hce.halomaps.org]
People probably wont like me saying this, But i think its superior to Halo CE.
No, I agree with you, it is superior to CE with the exception of it being aimed more to a hardcore/high difficulty audience. Masterz1337 & CMT have been working on single player mods/maps for the past 13 years. Bungie had to cut a lot of things out in order to get a 2001 release and they didn't have their full vision for Halo back then, you could not headshot (/shoot the parasite itself) infected Flood combat forms till Halo 3 (and infection forms couldn't infect other AI until Halo 3) and their engine was limited in 2001.
There's still quite a few people who play :)
