Poor Performance/Low FPS in CE ONLY
Reach runs perfectly for me (I do get the checkerboard effect but besides that) at 60 fps no stutter, but Halo:CE is completely unplayable. 20 FPS when it's stable, and most of the time it's also stuttering. I get a perfect, consistent,60 FPS and stutter free experience when I'm inside structures, then the frame rate immediately dips down to 20 when I step outside. If I lower the graphics from normal to low (or "performance" awful graphical options, btw) I manage to get an unplayable stutter-ey mess running at a whopping 35 FPS. This is on new and "old" graphics, with the old graphics performing worse and better in different spots in the exterior with no consistency among lighting/models/particles or any other assets.

AMD Phenom II X4 955
12GB RAM DDR3
Radeon RX480 8GB VRAM
Drivers are up to date, and I'm loading off an SSD. I'll leave the awful loading time issue quiet for now, as it still loads like I'm using an old hard drive, but Reach did that, too so I'm not that upset about it.
I've already tried, so don't suggest:
Changing Priority and Affinity in task manager (Easy Anti-Cheat does NOT allow this and never has)
Check for driver updates
Verify Integrity through Steam
And of course, multiple PC and game restarts after downloading the CE content.

Most of my testing was done on The Silent Cartographer, and that's where I was able to notice the differences between interior and exterior frame rate. This was also evident when transitioning from the first level, The Pillar of Autumn, to the next on the surface of Halo, and the frame rate drop was noticeable but harder to compare as I couldn't just go back inside and out again.

If anyone has any idea why CE is running so poorly while Reach remains steady in campaign and multiplayer, I'd really appreciate some direction to head in with my troubleshooting, or a link to a discussion on this topic as I was unable to find one.

I have a setup that can run modern VR games with no issues and I too notice that Halo CE runs significantly worse than Reach. I am guessing it's that super old engine it is running on.

Seen some others say this too. Not sure what the issue is as they both run good on my end. I have an i5-4690k and a GTX970, 16GB of Ram. Was watching a CE campaign stream yesterday and he was getting some bad stutters.

Yeah I just made a thread about this, however your pc is way better than mine, but mine should be good enough to run it. At any rate i'm glad its not just me.

Also to clarify, my game also runs great inside, outside areas I get some problems, but it is far from 20 fps, more like 30 or 40.
I still have frame drops in campaign and multiplayer . My specs are I58300h 16gb of ram windows10 home GTX1050 500 terabyte SSD thats on my gaming laptop. I also have frame drops also on my gaming pc my specs are ryzen 2600x 16gb of ram windows 10 home GTX 1060 1 terabyte SSD.

how is the CPU usage? Is it thrashing all cores? And GPU usage is low?

I think i'm starting to come to the conclusion that the game cannot utilize multiple cores, and since the game is originally from Xbox 360, most of the heavy lifting is shifted to the processor which may contribute to the poor performancec.

It can use multiple cores, but it's more like 3, as you say with the 360

Yeah I just looked at some performance metrics, I thought maybe it was my processor but none of my cores are maxed out and no other component is struggling in my system. Maybe there is something we are missing here. Can the op use a performance measuring application too please?

I'm betting he's seeing 75% CPU usage when he steps outside. in other words, the 3 cores of his older quad core are being thrashed and the CPU is the limiting factor to performance. Could do with a new CPU, even a sandy bridge i5 would be a big step up over his current cpu

CPU usage is average about 50%, never going above 70 or below 30. First core is the only core that is any different, and it's hitting about 70-85%, the rest are pretty close to the total CPU usage. Not what I'd describe as "thrashing" but my computer knowledge is a general IT background, not strictly gaming.
My GPU is the thing actually getting used, hitting 90% usage several times.
Ram usage never goes above 5GB
Using MSI Afterburner & Radeon 2020

The specific thing that drops my frame rate is the ground textures, when I was flying the banshee in Two Betrayals directly up or at any angle where I can't see the ground, I'm fine, 60 fps. The second I look down, straight down to 30. Ironically, this level runs better than most overall. This becomes more evident in Truth and Reconciliation, with the transition into the ship bringing the frame rate back up.

It sound like I'm just stuck waiting for a patch. The advice on JUST getting an i5 is kind of moot for someone already using an AMD processor, dontcha think? Not to mention the 2 guys confirming my problems AND using an i5.

Yeah that's wack. My GPU to put is slightly weaker, but still above minimum spec and my usage never goes up past 40%. My CPU is also way weaker, but all cores reach about 70% use. I'm getting alot of the frame lag your talking about, but not nearly as bad. so something makes me think there may be something wrong with the game that just affects different users. Especially since those i5 dudes are getting screwed too.

Since I basically have the same rig as you minus the CPU being slightly older and a FX-6350. While I may be able to run many games on ultra and be fine. I can only hope this port isn't a dumpster fire.

Well he is a swine.

lol. I really wish people would check the system requirements before telling people their pc is ♥♥♥♥. I had a few people tell me that my videocard is too weak for CE:A when system reqs indicate a gts 450 (which I am way ahead of) is required. That and the fact that my videocard doesn't even sweat while running this game according to RivaTuner Statistics. Lmao

I wanna just thank you guys for derailing my thread, enjoy your unnecessarily rude selves.
Dunno why I even tried asking for advice here. If you've ever heard the term "super-users" they're talking about you geniuses.

I'm probably not checking this anymore, as clearly there is no fix Anyone is finding this thread, learn from me;

When someone takes over an IP, they're ruining it. Always. Don't give them your money, or get it back while you still can. I can't even play Reach anymore, I get disconnected before I enter the game 9 times out of ten.
