Want to play Halo 2 or Halo 3? Here's How.
Everyone here is talking about Halo 3 and Halo 2 multiplayer so much, and I'm happy to say I have a solution for all of you until the games are added.

1. If you want to play Halo 2 on PC there is a fan made service that Microsoft has allowed to continue running called Project Cartographer, it's completely free to download and contains the Halo 2 PC port in its entirety along with the Cartographer coding needed to access online multiplayer. Just google search "Halo 2: Project Cartographer" and download the game from their main website.

2. If you want to play Halo 3 for a while, just by a month or two of Xbox Live Gold and host some old school Halo 3 custom games with your friends or people in this community on Xbox 360 until it gets released to PC. I'm sure plenty of people still have their old 360, or they have an xbox one which is backwards compatible with the original Halo 3.

What's the population like on Project Cartographer
It's got a strong modding community so it's pretty large.

It's not illegal. It's abandonware. It's completely legal to download Halo 2 Vista without a license key.

That's also illegal being "abandon" doesn't mean you can just pirate it especially when there legal ways to play that actively support the owners project cartographer also pretends that it's only a mod and only gives out the game on the down low

Thanks for advocating piracy

Stop speaking on something you know nothing about. It's legal.

I like how your suggestion on how to play Halo 3 was to play it on X360

I'm sure no one thought of that before xD

Probably because you're not allowed to advocate for Eldewrito on the forums.
Swaggaccino Dec 9, 2019 @ 12:42pm
Eldewrito nailed the balance. Some really great maps plus a server browser. God I wish 343 implemented a server browser for social games. I've hated matchmaking since Halo 2 brought it up. Being forced to play on maps you don't wanna play on and gametypes you don't like just to "keep the community together."

H5 has a Customs Browser, and (I believe) MCC Console does. I'm sure it's coming later.

"In many cases, the company which owns the software rights may not be that which originated it, or may not recognize their ownership." - The Wiki

"On October 9, 2012, Microsoft ended support for Halo 2 for Windows Vista and subsequently the Games for Windows Live Marketplace in August 2013, classifying Halo 2 Vista as “abandonware”. Under the Library of Congress 2015 DMCA 1201 Rules, Project Cartographer is a mod that falls under the exemption of Proposed Class 23: Abandoned Software – Video Games Requiring Server Communication" - Project Cartographer's Website.

343 doesn't own Vista. It's only available for an operating system that is no longer supported. They no longer offer support for it. They no longer track copyright violations. Games for Windows live isn't supported. Hired Gun isn't even recognized as an official Dev Team anymore.

It's legal. Stop acting like you're on some moral highground.

The developers of Project Cartographer got permission from Microsoft to distribute it for free, so what's the deal?
