For Those Wanting To Play With Xbox Friends: A Need-To-Know

Hello all, this post is about cross play capabilities regarding the Master Chief Collection though Steam and Xbox.

Know that if you purchase either Halo: Reach or the MCC through the Steam store YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO PLAY WITH FRIENDS ON XBOX. To circumvent this issue, you must buy Halo: Reach or the MCC on the Microsoft Game Store.

Additionally, if you decide to purchase Halo: Reach or the MCC through the Microsoft Store, you will still be able to play with friends that have it on Steam and on Xbox.

So objectively speaking, the best way to play the Halo: Reach or the MCC will be through the Microsoft Store since it allows you to play with Steam and Xbox users.

In regards to Steam's Policy on refunds, if you are reading this and ineligible for a refund as I am all you can do is have regret and be sad.

That is all.

EDIT: Since everyone seems to not understand in these comments that the Xbox platform mentioned above and the Microsoft Store are two separate entities I will clarify for those not understanding clearly.

Playing on an Xbox One with the MCC will not allow you to play with those on PC that bought it through Steam. However, if you own a PC and log into you Microsoft account, you can play the MCC through the Microsoft Store with your Steam friends and them with you.

Apologies to the angry neck-beards who are not familiar with how the Xbox game front and platform works.

This is not true, you can play with people on an Xbox system, but you have to make sure you're logged into your microsoft account and friend them through microsoft (xbox)

Look at the date of the last post. Now look at your calendar.

I didn't see anyone else clarify that the original post is incorrect today. Just trying to help out anyone that happens to stumble upon this thread like I did.

I think the official word is that cross-play campaign will not be happening. The same goes for Halo 4 Spartan Ops cross-play. Everything else; matchmaking, custom games, the Custom Game Browser, ODST and Reach firefight, Forge; supports cross-play now.

At some point during season 6 or 7 there was a change to joining on players. Now you have to jump through some hoops like adding the host to your Xbox Live friends list and/or sending an invite.
