AFAIK that file only touches the unreal engine portion of the game. would be good to find out if it actually works during gameplay. I can't test it myself because i don't seem to have the same issue people are reporting.
Good question!
In that file you'll quickly notice all your in-game settings from volume levels to keybindings, sometimes copied for each game.
Yes, this affects the game.
cant wait to hear crispy potato chip sounds
But it still doesn't sound like an AAA game from that era should sound, IMHO. I could hear the com communication better, but the weapon adn battle sounds still seem muffeld.
Let's hope they improve sound further. But for now that workaround is OK.
Agreed, there are still NUMEROUS issues with the audio from the mix of the different sources being completely wonky, to the environmental effects not being appropriately applied in all maps to codec/compression issues and terrible use of surround sound setups (center channel use specifically is a mess). Not to mention the bugs with crackling/popping many are experiencing which, at least anecdotally, seem to be related to sample rate/bit depth settings varying across different people's setups.
However this does seem to positively affect at least some of the poor quality issues that were there on top of these others.
Hope this helps!
In Gears 5, turning it down from 3 to 0 turned Atmos into 7.1 output, maybe the same logic applies here.
UE4 only handles the Menu/UI aspects of this game, I suspect any true fixes have to come from tinkering with the Halo Engine itself.
