One temporary fix some users have found is to go into your computer audio device settings and change the audio bit rate from 42000Hz (typical sound quality for good computers) down to something like 32000Hz if possible
Here's what I did, but I don't know which one fixed it.
1) I use a USB headset, so I connected normal iPhone earphones and switched them to default. Got into a match, confirmed I was getting audio from the earphones; and switched the default back to the headset.
2) Disabled all audio devices except the one I use.
I still get no audio if I'm tabbed out when the game is about to start; so I avoid that entirely. But I still get no audio randomly ever so often.
Oh and 343 is not aware of this particular issue; if you try to report this bug, you'll get it locked saying it's already in the bug list, which it isn't. But the low audio quality and the no audio except for menus are 2 completely separate issues.
I also have this specific problem. My Setup is normaly PC via HDMI to a 4K HDR Beamer, and sound through Optical to a AV Receiver.
In Windows Sound i have normaly set it at 5.1 Dolby Digital Live.
All my Games,Videos and Music works great, but only Halo give me no Sound ingame at all (only Menus).
The Trick to change the Khz is not working for me, cause through optical you could not change the Khz.
The only way to play it temporary for now is to plug my Beamer through DVI, and the HDMI to my AVR for Sound and then change it in Windows Sound to my AVR with the quality i think it was 24btit and 48Khz...
And for Peopel who ask why i dont "lead through" the HDMI Signal through the AVR to my Beamer, is because my AVR only accepts HDMI 1.3 and this could not do 4K@60FPS.
Hopefully you understand what i mean...
(in simple PC->HDMI->AVR->HDMI->Beamer "inpossible")
So i have to use optical for Sound and HDMI for 4K YCbCr422 10Bit
But thats not a solution for me, cause through DVI my Beamer only gets YCbCr420 Color with 8Bit in 4K...thats odd
I really hope they fix such thing with the other Sound Bugs!
And yeahh, sorry for my english, but i hope you guys could understand me anyway ;)
PS: The other thing is that i really hoped that the Halo MCC do get Dolby Atmos, cause its from MICROSOFT the ones who did it for the XBOX and had an APP for ATMOS in there Store...so yes this would be the first Games for me to try Dolby Atmos...but you get it...
at least i wish the Sound would work normaly with optical and 5.1....
PPS: Ok i tryed to use the DVI for sound and the HDMI for Picture and it works.
But thats no solution anyway, cause i have to change the cables everytime i use my VR Headset that is normaly in the DVI output of my graphics card...
Always be sure what type your Monitor is, some people use their bulky TVs from like 2008 as their gaming computer monitor, like what Zavyir said the 360 porting could very well be a factor with different monitors, some are compatible some aren't.
343 was always pretty wonky with how they handle the Halo franchise + the porting, but were lucky to even get a PC port of this wonderful collection of games that were XBOX exclusive.
To be clear, the other software was just a music player, and it works fine normally with the game audio, but the time I had this bug, it was closing that music player and restarting OBS that finally allowed the game to work, so I kind of suspect it might be some kind of broken or half-disabled recording/streaming DRM?
