Why does the DMR replace the BR in Reach?
I always thought of the BR as being Halo's equivalent to Doom's shotgun, i.e. the one really iconic weapon that almost everyone recognizes.

When I think of a DMR, I usually think of something long range, like a light version of a sniper rifle. But in Reach, the DMR is basically just a BR that fires semi-auto instead of 3 round burst.

Halo 2 had the best weapon variety.
Change my facts.

But to be serious, if theres one thing that really irks me about halo, its the identity crisis it has in regards to weapons. Every installment is vastly different.
I too, much prefer the Battle Rifle.
When Halo 4 came around, which has both, i never really used the DMR.

I kinda hate that reach doesnt have the Carbine Rifle either.
Does anybody really want that replaced with a needler rifle?

it was what was used by the general army at the time of reach the BR was used during reach but was an navy issued weapon which is why we didn't see it in noble teams position.

Well Halo sits in this weird spot between traditional Arena shooters and military shooters so the identity crisis isn't really surprising.
I like the DMR. But I'm almost sure the BR is the favorite.

Because precision weapons in Halo are too good so if the BR was in ODST you would never have a reason to use any other gun.

I didn't play ODSTs MP, just the campaign so i can't answer that.

Oh it doesnt have PVP multiplayer, which makes me ask why guns were removed, since balancing (in the sense of available weapons) isnt really... Essential.

But its PVE Firefight is probably the best iteration of that mode we've had.
Its a shame if you never played that.

You're not wrong. But its just never stopped any other title Lol.
BR dominated Halo 3. DMR dominates Reach.

But maybe they were really trying to force that SMG on you, because "ODST immersion"

In my opinion, the MA5B is the iconic gun of Halo since it's been around since the first game to the last. But the BR definitely is the more popular gun to use
