Okay I have found the solution!

- Right click your volume button in your taskbar and click "open sound settings".

- Scroll down until you see "Advanced Sound Options" and click "App volume and device preferences".

- Find the MCC option and crank up the volume to 100, bear in mind that the game should be running to see this option.

- Your issue is hopefully fixed!

When if the above solution doesn't work and you're using a bluetooth headset:

1. Open the Start Menu.
2. Click Settings.
3. Click Privacy.
4. Click Microphone.
5. Toggle Let apps use my microphone to Off

@Fossil It's been a while since I did it but I got it working. I've changed the app volume and device on top of the default sound settings. So I now have it working with a little tweaking but it works.

Just need to open the game to see it. Might need to close and reopen for it to take affect.

Solved it as well but my problem was slightly different to rectify:

Everything was muted once reaching the main menu, including the rest of the computer (no other tabs could output sound to my headphones)

I have Bluetooth Headphones (preferred sound output) with microphone (bad quality) and a separate wired USB microphone (preferred microphone) due to better sound quality.

This fix worked for me:

- Start the game and make sure you don't have sound
- Right click Sound Icon near clock on bottom right
- In the Sound Settings, click on "Sound Control Panel"
- In Playback Tab, ensure that your headphones is set as "Default Communication Device" and "Default Device" by right clicking on your headphones

It seems having them different mutes the sound entirely with my brief tests
Not sure if it helps but I also ensured the same was done in the "Recording Tab" for my microphone (Default Device and Default Communication Device)

You should be able to do this with the game open and get it immediately without restarting the game (at least for me)

Hope this helps anyone in the future!

So I thought I'd post a solution to the issue my partner was having on her system for this that I did not.
We both use Realtek HD audio manager but have our speakers connected to our systems in different ways:
My system uses a USB MIDI device to combine my studio mic and speakers
My partner has her speakers use the line in cable into her mother board
We both use the same speakers which consist of a left, right and base

So the key difference was that in her Realtek HD audio manager I had set the speakers to be 5.1 surround sound where as mine didn't get that option at all.

To resolve her issue I changed the Realtek HD audio manager setting from 5.1 to Stereo which then allowed the game voice audio and other sounds to play at the correct volum level.

A technical expliation for this as a programmer and audio guy is that the game was written originally to only be played with stereo sound. I was able to work this out by turning away from characters that where speaking to the player so my back was facing them then the sound got a bit higher in volume which is a key indicater that 5.1 sound is not correctly implmented.

I have also noticed online and in this thread suggestions that head sets help this is expected as some headset come with fake or acutal 5.1 and even higher surround sound bilt in.

I hope this helps anyone still having the issue

I guess this is on w10? I got w8.1 and this post was not helpful whatsoever.

I got no sound ingame when playing co-op, only in menu.

The solution for me was to lower the Default Format/sample rate my sound card uses to 24-bit 192khz. Anything higher and MCC (Halo 2 specifically) does not play some sound.

Hopefully that helps someone with a similar issue.

Control Panel -> Devices and Printers -> [Select Device] -> Services -> Deselect Handsfree Telephony -> Restart

Indeed, this was really helpful. I played around with the bitrate and frequencies.

Best results at 24/96000 , other bitrates resulted in quality loss in windows or cracking/missing sound in HALO games.

If none of the above helps. I fixed the issue by disabling the wireless 'device' of the Bluetooth headset in sound manager and then relaunching something called AVCTP-service through Windows+R > services.msc, WHILE ingame. It handles audio and video protocols.

I found this to not always work, another work around is to STOP the bluetooth audio gateway service. This service handles the handsfree part of your headset, which you do not want running, as it is the thing stopping audio playing in this case. You can stop this service while in game and you should have sound.

In my case, I have normal audio in menu, but silent in game REACH.
I searched and tried a lot, here's records of methods other people might worked, In case some unlucky guys don't get fix by the answers above:
1. This RESLOVED MY PROBLEM: Download DLC named: "MCC - Reach: Extended Language Pack". This DLC is NOT download defautly, and maybe deselected after launch game( dont know why). If you a playing other game in acc, you can try other language pack too.
2. disable other unused sound and recording device, especially "*hands*free*","*AG*", and bluetooth related ones.
3. try lower format settings of audio device in both legacy and modern control panel, like "24bit, 48000Hz"
4. try launch game without EAC, the one allow mods
5. try manually set audio output device and volume in windows' volume mixer. And in game settings, too
6. try change "Multi-player game audio" to "anniversary"

I have the exact same problem since launch, tried everything. There is no fix for this. Some get crackled audio, some people dont get audio at all, some people only have audio in menu but not ingame ( like me ).

They said they will fix all these audio issues in the next update. But nobody knows when.

Yes it sucks.
If you're still having this issue, I was able to solve it through the game audio settings. Find "Game audio output device" at the top of your audio settings and change it from Default to whatever headphones you have hooked up. That might resolve this buggy mess for you.

IF YOU'RE STILL HAVING TROUBLE, I HAVE SOMETHING ELSE TO TRY.
This is a solution that worked for me on Windows 11, I do not know if it is possible on Windows 10, it has been too long.
- Go into your Sound settings,
- Select the sound source you are using, bringing you to the Properties menu
- Change your sound Format "2 channels, 16 bit..."
The problem should be fixed, it shouldn't matter which one it ends up staying on.

- open "sound settings" in windows. Use window search bar.

- Scroll down to Advanced Sound Options" and open

- Scroll down to "App Volume" Halo Master Chief collection Will NOT be listed.

-Keep sound setting open while you start the game Halo.

- When Halo is in the menu screen, use Alt+Tab to switch back to the sound settings.

- "Halo Master Chief Collection" should now be listed under the "App Volume"

- Change output/input "default" setting to "Headset"

Sound issue should be fixed.

This works as a fix although for me it fixed on its own by closing and opening the game several times until the audio worked right from the splash screen

welp its 2024 and they still haven't fixed this. I've tried everything here and elsewhere, no luck. I'm getting to the point of asking for a refund
