Does anybody use mic anymore?
Something I loved about 360 Halo was team-communication over mic, and the occasional ridiculous shenanigans that entailed. After "partying" was introduced though, everything essentially became a free-for-all single-player game because nobody used audio anymore.

So in MCC, I've run into maybe 1 or 2 other people that respond over mics, and that's a shame. Is everyone really THAT afraid of voice trolls? (selective muting is a thing, after all)

I wish there was some sort of "prefer players with voice chat" option for matchmaking.

Or am I missing something? =\

Pretty much gonna be nonexistence because of Discord. Mostly other solo players use their mics. I don't tend to have trouble finding people with mics in Firefight.
the volume for voice chat players being so insanely loud really doesn't help, and after my first encounter witha dude with a mic i just turned off voice chat completely for about a week because it was SO loud... i don't think that's the problem though.

a significant portion of the players may not even know there is an in-game voice chat, and a majority of the people like me who used to use voice chat on xbox are still using controllers, and the controllers have no push-to-talk button. pressing any key on the keyboard not only requires letting go of the controller but it also completely disables the controller if the keyboard or mouse are being used at all.

Never again.

I have had too many encounters with mouthbreathers, music spammers, screamers, prepubescent and pubescent MFers and other unpleasant specimens, across a wide variety of games. I value my hearing and my sanity too much to expose myself to ingame voice chat.

I use a mic still.

Sadly I came to the conclusion that most PC players are mokney-sphere gamers.

They *only* like to interact with *their* friends, but not others.

Kinda stupid and sad tbh...

PC gamers like to make fun of console players, but consoles are far more social of an experiance, as on most consoles all players have a mic, and all games and players have it on by default. On console you have to *actively* choose to be anti-social.

On PC its the opposite, you must *actively* try to be social, and even if you get it all setup and try, chances are the other person on the other side of the internet either wont have themselves setup, or wont *want* to interact with you b/c they have predetermined views on "mouthbreathers" or the likes (see above post) and thus dont even plan to give you a chance to be a nice guy, they will just exclude you b/c it suits them better to be social with only *their* monkey-sphere...

Only true sollution, create your own large monkey sphere or join another. Often called "clans" on PC...

People have mics but too shy to use ‘em :P
I find that if I start talking the lobby lights up a bit, but it's mostly nonsense, still kinda fun, UK accent seems to do the trick.

I prefer typing because I don't have to repeat myself, I won't rush my words out, and using my mic sometimes makes the game more serious.

FreelosoFur has a really good reason though. I've meet a lot of people who won't talk in-game or in a Discord call because they just don't like talking. Got someone right now who is going to stop using their mic and use in-game chat and a sound board to take off pressure during games with randoms.

Voice-chat is more common with people you know well.

343 killed any communication by making voice chat push to talk with an unchangeable bind that's not even convenient to hit

no. open mic is bad and needs to go away. i must've muted hundreds of people who have music on in the background, some animal making noise, or the aforementioned mouthbreathing.

TBH I don't know how to use voice chat on the PC. I'm new to PC gaming. I use a gaming headset on Xbox One. It plugs into the controller and it works. With PC no sound comes out when I plug into my controller. I plug it into my PC and the sound works but how do I talk to people? I would talk if I knew how!

Open mic is fine. Dont blame the feature blame the kids you have to mute, they are the problem.

I am super happy and excited to get open mic added in (its coming btw).

I dont have kids, I have cats, I use a headset, I dont want to have to press anything to speak, and players on a *team* should want a communicative partner to play with.

If you *don't* then get out of the team based modes and go play FFA. You are not a team player if you don't want to communicate with the team, sorry.

If you don't use push-to-talk and your mic is constantly making noise, you should get muted by everyone which then hopefully leads to a permanent mute. At least it use to on console I think. The problem is people are too dumb or dont care to even check if their mic does this in games. It is ignorant and ridiculous. Hearing you breathe, your garbage music, or your mother constantly yelling at you ruins the game for others.

the other FPS i play fairly often is Insurgency, i do work with my team if i can, and i know full well the advantage communication plays, but open mics are irritating and distracting for the 90% of the time the sound coming out of it is completely useless. if there is a feature in the game that requires me to stop playing the game to manually, individually turn off every kid's pointless noise, then that is a bad feature. if you're desperate for open mics, fine, but let me turn them off so i only hear people talking by push-to-talk, then everybody can have their preference.

When I can bind it to the mouse, then Ill start using it.

I'm lucky for the fact that in any game I play I usually play with friends. That's about 90% of the time.

So we use Discord for that.
