You will not need a gold account to play. Not a single Microsoft PC game requires Gold for PC.
Microsoft xbox live games on PC have never required gold subscription to play online Xbox gold is for xbox consoles only. PC has allways been free.
Most people who use windows 10 use a microsoft account Not becouse you can't make a offline account its down to the fact Windows 10 install pushes you to a online account and u have to go out of your way to use a offline account.
And on the latest build of windows 10 its gotten a lot worse it asks you 3 times to use a microsoft account when u click use offline account once again when u get asked about cortana and then after the install it asks again to sue microsoft account.
Im not saying it not easy to use a offline account it is but microsoft really push the live account at every avenue and most avarage PC owners will just follow onscreen instruction and do what windows says and that use a live account:)
If you have a Microsoft E-mail account, you're good to go.
