What are the differences between Firefight in Reach and ODST?
I never played ODST before so I'm wondering which one is more entertaining.

I've played a little bit of Firefight in ODST, if I remember correctly it's a lighter version of Reach's firefight, likely because it was the first iteration of Firefight. I may be wrong, but that's how I remember it.

ODST was barebones, it didn't have customization as Reach's Firefight did. However with that being the case it's near impossible to do a straight up Firefight match is seems since everyone want to only do the power fantasy types like infinite ammo with rockets and overshields.

To answer which is more entertaining, after I started playing Reach I never went back to ODST's firefight, however I didn't play that much ODST overall anyhow so I may be biased.

Is that so (referring to Reach online)? I always loved doing one life sessions and custom-but-balanced sessions, both of my own design. :3

Reach had more customization and had matchmaking. Still I had more fun with ODST's firefight simply because the player characters were that much weaker. Its a different experience playing as a spartan. Encountering a Brute Chieftan with a gravity hammer in ODST really got your blood pumping. Thats not to say Reach firefight was easy. ODST just felt more desperate.

I can see that. At the same time, there were settings available to change nearly every aspect of Firefight in Reach (which I think we agree with), so it was definitely possible to make a session absolutely desperate for the players (max AI "senses", every challenge skull on, player health reduced to minimum, no shields, etc.) :2016watermelon:

ODST was barebones - much more difficult to survive as you were an ODST not a Spartan. Best iteration imo

Reach firefight by default is more arcadey due to a sleuth of wacky modes, but you can customize it to make it more difficult.

Both are still very fun especially with friends

Just ignore arcade firefight, it's incredibly boring. There's no challenge, you have overshields, infinite lives, and a slew of power weapons to spawn with. Normal Firefight or Firefight classic is more similar to ODST. You can adjust a lot of options for firefight on reach, almost like custom games.

Well, the biggest "core"-difference between both is, and that reflects in terms of Gameplay. That you play in ODST pretty much a "normal" Soldier, while in Reach you play a Spartan. If i would've put a comparison to it, it would be like comparing Rainbow Six with Quake or Doom.

If you want more the "tactical" feeling than ODST is your choice, but like others pointed out, due it was it's first iteration it was barebones compared to Reach. If you want to have such an Mode but more "Master Chief"Style, than Reach Firefight is more your cup of tea.

odst's default mode is better than reach since it adds a skull per wave and set and doesnt end after 1 set also you cant just keep getting ammo from the box

tldr its more challenging and can last forever

Keep in mind currently ODST Firefight is NOT in the MCC on Xbox, its only the campaign (people seem to overlook this). This is the last actual piece of playable legacy content before Halo 5 we won't have after Reach releases not being in the collection still. There is alot of good reasons now to re-release this on the MCC since this mode from its original release hasn't seen any new version since 2009 now (4k 60 fps support and especially matchmaking support (which would be huge) added in alongside Reach's Firefight, they were released a year apart). Its coop support right now is absolute crap and is unstable on Xbox One BC I tried recently. If 343 does not add this to the collection, it will be stuck permanently on the Xbox 360 forever and most likely they will never go back to this game again. I really hope its not the reason they can't add it now is because of the engine limitation with the UE4 alongside with the Blam! Engine since they had trouble adding Reach in to work OK on the Original Xbox One. They also better add in the light armor customization from the game as well that it had to work with the new progression system for its upcoming season (were assuming here). I don't mind if 343 ups the price from $5 to $10 on Steam and Windows Store if need be if this will happen, they deserve it. Don't know how they will do this on Xbox for its DLC alongside the campaign, maybe a re-bundle for an additional $5? Or to be nice to Xbox folks, give everyone it on there for free!!

I would gladly pay for ODST firefight mode.

Yeah I also hope they add ODST firefight when they get around to porting ODST to PC. Even if it takes a bit longer. ODST in general just felt more like a battle for survival since you were not a Spartan with no shields. I guess you could nerf yourself in Reach firefight though to get a similar experience.
