It doesn't have to be working for all the games, you can make one separate from the other, and Halo Reach had the customization and grind that people liked the best. In almost all of the games that came afterwards, people wanted gear and a system like Halo Reach have.
And with the ''unhealthy repetition on maps'' thing. People want voting, in CoD Modern warfare atm there isn't map voting, and people are already tired af by it. People want to sort of be in control of what they can choose.
But yes I do see the convenience of having a system that works for all the games, but since it will take almost a whole year for the others to arrive. Then it is really not that hard to compute a system that is different.

Lol
Halo reach old ranking system was designed to take years to get max rank and i doubt the game will be alive for that long
And when mods comes, i really doubt that many players would play none-modded halo.
Who does not wanna play Grunt slayer or cursed halo mods?
It didn't take overly long to get armour and different customization with the challenges, campaign and mulitplayer. It worked fine
Map voting led to playing the same maps and modes over and over again and the new unlock system with the credits makes it so we are able to save up points for when they release new seasons and new content.
"It worked fine" yeah, it worked great. I had some meaning behind my unlocks because when I ranked up new items would pop up in the armory I'd save for. Now it's a boring, grindy, ♥♥♥♥♥ linear progression system. The order they're listed in is so random and arbitrary it's like they pulled item names from a hat and put them in that order on the bar.
I want to play with anti-cheat off just so I have the "all unlocks" mod running so I can do whatever I want (which is honestly really simple, nothing flashy) but as far as I know it's probably just filled with "hackers" or the player count is simply due to custom games/modded games. It's hard to convince your friends to join you on the anti cheat disabled version when we gotta deal with that ♥♥♥♥. It's a catch 22.
you'd just have 2 things to grind for as opposed to 1.
You might think it was less linear and gave you options, but it really didnt past the initial scrub stuff.
At a certain point you'd be grinding for levels to unlock specific items, and then grinding for the credits to buy them.
On OG reach I only have 39% armory completion, but I have everything that I want.
That's simply not possible here, in my case I want the breacher vest with collar, so I'd at least need to get the equilavant of around 80% unlock completion in MCC reach for that to be possible.
How come? You could buy with credits what ever you want. There is no reason why it wouldnt work.
But you'd still have to grind for what you wanted. and if what you wanted wasnt basic tier it could take A WHILE.
Saying you could buy whatever you wanted is a bit misleading, because you'd still have to grind a very specific level for very specific things.
the stuff you're talking about, only applies to things you've most likely already unlocked.
You people need to keep in mind OG reach was designed with the idea in mind that the next game wouldnt be out for years. If another game was even coming at all.
This one, is not. You'll get everything way earlier.
I personally bought a used copy of reach to play backwards compatible on the xbox one.
I exclusively used campaign and singleplayer firefight challenges to level up.
I've gotten the things i'm using now, here, way faster than i did there.
I'm like, a page away from the Mark V Halo CE helmet. Which is what i used.
And my PVP experience here is almost exclusively infection.
So i'm still mostly doing Firefight.
Imagine someone who actually grinds grifball. How far they probably are already.
Except, it's more annoying this way.
Not many people want everything in Reach's armor, they just want a select few, which will take MUCH longer.
I wont argue that it isnt annoying. its overly linear. OG reach being a thing or not, its still too linear.
But how long it takes, really depends on the item.
Like the example i just used. Want the CE helmet? this is faster.
its probably the same for the Halo 2/3 helmet.
