Is this series worth it for single-player and story only?

As someone who played Halo 1 PC back in the day (yes it was a thing and it even had online multiplayer) I can say that alone had a fairly good singleplayer. Now seeing as how this is a bundle of games you should indeed be able to enjoy the singleplayer part of it quite well. In fact I was thinking about trying to install it on my newest PC and play it again for the first time in years.

I was playing the master chief collection over easter on my nephews xbox one. This was the very first time I'd played any Halo game. And they are amazing! I'll be picking them up to play single player only.

Eh, Maybe.
Its kinda necessary to be FPS, have multiplayer, Have fast paced crouch mechanics,
And a ragdoll system that allows it. At the time of CE i really cant think of anything else that fits this.
I'd say Halo is a pretty safe bet.

At the very least, halo 2 and 3 made it the iconic taunt it is now.

Yes the singleplayer campaigns are incredible, you can play most of the campaigns co-op as well as singleplayer I'm pretty sure. You also get lots of multiplayer games to play.

Halo is worth it for Single player, Coop, Multiplayer, Competeitve, Custom Games and Forge mode. Also if you love to do screen shots there is also a theatre mode.

Heck-to-the-yeah they are! Well, moreso the original five games made by Bungie. Halo 4 has a better story than it does level, sandbox, or enemy design (though personally I’m not the most privy to Halo 4’s story either, but I’ll leave that up to you to decide for yourself whether it’s good or not), and Halo 5 just isn’t worth playing the campaign for.

Yes.
Singleplayer is great, story isn't Shakespeare (to be fair, in games, what is?) but it's a well crafted rollercoaster ride that stands the test of time as a fun space adventure odyssey.

100% Yes & Yes, but you want to find someone else to play with because the story is fully coop in every game! I had more hours in story than online playing on legendary diff with friends!
